When Good Friends Go Bad

Hey ladies!

Shhh…I don’t mean to be, well…mean, but I’m thinking about dropping a friend! I’m not taking this lightly, because I know it’s not fun to be dropped. It’s just that every time I see this particular friend of mine, it puts me in a bad mood.

But does that justify dropping a friend?

Zoey says absolutely not! She says “Don’t drop. Downgrade!” Just like Mac in TALENT, she doesn’t drop friends, she just sees them less. Way less.

Zoey says you keep moving someone down a tier until there’s nowhere to go. This is her system:

  1. Tier 1 Friends: Co-plan parties, get daily e-mail check-ins, travel abroad with you

  2. Tier 2 Friends: Attend pre-parties with you, see you weekly for friend-dates

  3. Tier 3 Friends: Join you for parties (though not the pre-part), and get monthly e-mails

  4. Tier 4 Friends: You send them mass e-mails. They see you once a year for coffee

  5. Everyone else: nada
I’m wondering what you think—have you ever dropped a friend? Why? And how did it turn out?

Comments:

i did. it was a girl who was my bestie, but i found better friends and she became annoying and over-clingy. she got mad and called me some things but i dont regret it. we still talk- occasionally, we just dont hang out. we both have our own new groups of friends who we are both happy with. life goes on...

Dropping a friend, nah, and matter or fact my BFFL and I just made up and shes over now and my other BFF, sleepover time!!! (2:13 A.M} Althought they're already a sleep, LOL! My sleepover record is 8:00 in the morning. Anyhoot I wouldnt drop a friend just look back at the good times you had with her and hope for many more. Maybe just make her a friend not a BFF or BFFL.

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for the advice. You are all far more mature than I am. Update: So I decided not to downgrade. Instead--how's this for revolutionary--I decided to **accept** this person's quirks. (OK, I did see This Friend a lot less, so in a way I downgraded.) But there was no drama, and it was fine, and I'm glad This Friend is in my life. Hugs, Kerry

I'm trying to. She's becoming overly clingy and she's sooooo embarassing. I'm starting by just not hanging out with her or talking to her at school by just saying "I Gotta Run". Unfortunately she's the kind of person that will still think were friends. Any advice?????? xoxo
