How to Survive a Scandal

Don’t you haaaate being embarrassed? Whether it's saying the wrong thing, wearing the wrong thing, or calling someone by the wrong name, a social faux-pas just feels wrong. The worst, most unfair part is, some girls are not embarrassed by ANYTHING. (Case in point: Paris Hilton).

But sometimes having thick skin can be your best asset. That’s what I love about Mackenzie "Mac" Armstrong in Zoey’s latest book, TALENT. Mac does not get embarrassed, and instead sees every social setback as an opportunity.

Here’s how to turn a faux-pas into a faux-yah, ay-sap:

  1. Smile like you meant to do it. It'll confuse people so much, they’ll forget what you did in the first place.

  2. Enjoy the attention. As they say in the Biz, all press is good press!

  3. Do better next time. If you forgot someone’s name, make a point to remember it the next time you cross paths.

  4. Move on. We all make mistakes. Losers dwell on them; winners learn from them.
What about you? What's the worst faux-pas you've ever made, and how did you recover? Spare no gory detail, people! The crazier the better.

Comments:

Um,er, well being embarrased hmmmm. Nope nothing comes to mind, where I am from when we do soemthing embarrasing well we laugh. I dont think it bothers us as much. Unless we have a over dramtized girl or boy in our school who is like "OMG". We just laugh with our friends. The most weirdest thing I ever wore was this cute bright pink mini over bright {yellow or blue} leggings. I was not embarrased at all. Something wrong I said,uh, er no comment.One of my BFF's and I are lets say random so we say the weirdsest things. I know everyones name by heart, if I have knew them longer then a week. Anyways like I said where I live no one is embarrased. Ciao, Amber xoxo

Hey Amber! It's Kerry, Zoey's Number One Assistant. It's so great you can laugh at yourself and not spend too much time blushing. I bet you and Mac would be good friends! Have a great weekend and stay away from those bright leggings! (Or not!) Ha. Ha. Hugs, Kerry

Ha, yea, I am going shopping soon so I am getting away from bright leggings. I just rembered 2 embarrasing things, that just came to mind. As I said it seems embarrasing but I was not. The first one was during a Christmas play at my church I was an Angel and so was my friend Becca and she said the line I was supposed to say and I go {hopefully I was in a low voice not normal} "Hey that was my line." Lol! Now this was a few years ago. Then the second one was currently from last year. I was in a MCT {Missoula Childrens Theater} Audition and as usual we were in a line from tallest to shortest. The line we had to say was "Children should be seen not heard." First I said it backwards then It would not come out right. It was funny. By the way we were doing Cinderella. This year we are doing Sleeping Beauty I start Monday! Fun, Fun, Fun! I love the directors they are so sweet. Ciao, Amber xoxo.

Hey, its me again. I need to vent A-Sap! Okay I have/had this really close BFF sense pre-school, and all of a sudden shes being a witch to me the last convo we had she said she didn't care about me for know exazct reason. I do not understand this it is driving me insane. You know how many times she ignores me in a year, you dont want to know. We do have our good timess though, it just aggervates me that out of all 4 of our "clique" shes 85% more mean to me! I only have one friend I do not fight with, and if you have that kind of friend your just one lucky duck! Thanks for letting me vent. Ciao, AMber xoxo

Hi, I really need some advice on the embarrasing stuff. Well, I remember this time (just this year) I was walking with my crush (he's older than me) and we were doing a lap walking around the football field and walking, when we arrived at some point I saw all my girlfriends grouped together, staring at me and talking, like if it was a big deal. Yeah, so one of them comes up to the guy and goes "hey, can I borrow her for one sec?" he goes "no" and two of my friends start pulling me until I fall flat on the bottom. Everyone starts laughing and when I look up the guy is already gone !! What should I do to to make them forget it in that case? I really need advice !! Thnx, xoxo, Sabrina

Hey ladies! Thanks for sharing (and venting)! These are some amazing comments. Wish I could reply better: Zoey and I are traveling this week. Plus, I am **sooo** not qualified to give advice (ha! as you know from my posts). What works for me is to smile, enjoy the attention, learn from it and mooooove on! (Easier said than done, right?) Oh, fun fact: Zoey says to keep sunglasses handy so if you start blushing, you can put on shades pronto! Hugs, K

So one day I was looking through some old photos from when I was 9-11 years old and I was so dorky! I wore the worst possible outfits and always had a book in my hand, plus hideous glasses. A few day later, I was telling some of my friends that I had just become friendly with this year and they were like "Yeah, you were SUCH a loser! I thought you'd still be a freak now, but now your popular and way cooler!" Well, it wasn't EXACTLY like that, but still! I was still so embarrased!

OMG! love these tips!! I would have to day the most embarrassing faux-pas that ever occurred to me was when I went to summer camp and I was one of the oldest group of girls there,and so many younger girls looked up to the older girls. So one day,a whole group of younger girls came up to me and said "Hi Cristine!" and complimented me on my outfit or something that happened that day.And i said "Thanks!er...um.." Racking my brain on what was their names.And they all got quiet.And they exchanged glances and one of them said, "Do you even know our names?" I really didn't! There's so many I forget! I was so embarrassed! And to younger girls!! UGH! I later apologized and took the time to learn their names.Some didn't speak to me so I just had to overhear when other people called their names!

FYI:this happened when i was in the seventh grade. i like the attention thought (;
