How to Survive a Scandal
Posted at 09:19AM Jul 15, 2008 by Kerry Shaw in Talent Advice
Don’t you haaaate being embarrassed? Whether it's saying the wrong thing, wearing the wrong thing, or calling someone by the wrong name, a social faux-pas just feels wrong. The worst, most unfair part is, some girls are not embarrassed by ANYTHING. (Case in point: Paris Hilton).
But sometimes having thick skin can be your best asset. That’s what I love about Mackenzie "Mac" Armstrong in Zoey’s latest book, TALENT. Mac does not get embarrassed, and instead sees every social setback as an opportunity.
Here’s how to turn a faux-pas into a faux-yah, ay-sap:
- Smile like you meant to do it. It'll confuse people so much, they’ll forget what you did in the first place.
- Enjoy the attention. As they say in the Biz, all press is good press!
- Do better next time. If you forgot someone’s name, make a point to remember it the next time you cross paths.
- Move on. We all make mistakes. Losers dwell on them; winners learn from them.
