How to score a friend date.

I totally get friend crushes.

I had a huuuuge friend/talent crush on Zoey, so I wrote her a short letter. And then we went out for coffee at Urth Caffé, where Mac takes Emily in TALENT. The friendship sparks were a-flyin. And voilá: a friendship was born!

Sometimes you just know.

There’s no better time to shake up your social life than in the summer—it’s too hard in school when everyone’s locked into their own clique. If there’s someone who would make a great addition to your cell phone, here’s how to score a friend-date:

  1. Compliment her once. If she has awesome style savvy, let her know! If you want to know how she got so good at soccer, ask. Warning, though: don’t go overboard or you’ll look like a suck-up.

  2. Invite her out. Suggest something fun and easy-breezy, like meeting up for a quick gelato. Keep it low key so it’s easy for her to say yes.

  3. Take it slow. If you guys have a great time, don’t assume you’re automatically BFFs!
Nobody said making friends was easy, but it’s totally worth the risk. So, any great friendship stories out there? Do tell!

Hey,Zoey! I love Talent! It's my new favorite book!! :) Anyway, I just read the friendship article, and you said if we had any stories please do tell, so I will. Early in the school year there was a new girl. She seemed like she wasn't very nice. I tried to be her friend. Apparentley the reason why she wasn't the nicest was because she was new to the school and was worried she wouldn't make any friends. Once I became her friend, she was extremely nice and still is. Right now we're best friends. It's funny how things work out. The lesson to be learned here is try to branch out and make a friend because you could end up having a great new friendship. Even if you reach out to a person and you don't end up becoming friends, just know you're a good person for trying. Well, as I said I love Talent and Zoey!!! xoxo, Ashley

Hey, it's Kerry, Zoey's #1 Assistant. Zoey wanted me to thank you for the kind words about Talent and for sharing your story. It's funny what can happen when you take a risk and reach out to someone, right? We are so glad you are enjoying her new book! Have a great day, Kerry

I just read the friendship article and thought this woul be nice! : It was the first day of school and in Technology, they put us in aphabetical order. They said some guy's name first then mine. The teacher grouped us in twos and I was paired with that guy. I said, "Hi I'm Nicole." and he answered and we made small talk about what sports we're going out for and etc. And everyday we'd talk some more and now after the school year was over, he's my best guy friend! Even though I like him a little bit more... :)
