Lovely readers!

It's so great to hear from all of you who are reading Splendor-- of course I want everyone who reads one of my books to love them and feel like every choice I make about plot or character is natural and perfect and right. But that would be impossible, and to have readers who feel passionately about words I have written, whether they agree or disagree, is a tremendous honor. Even if they are angry or sad-- to have readers who care enough to be angry or sad is wonderful.

But I do want to say about that ending (and here !!SPOILER ALERT!! please stop reading if you don't want to know what happens), that I'm sorry to have let those of you who wanted Diana and Henry together at the end down. I love a happy ending, too, but to me this is a happy ending, for Diana, anyway, because she gets to go out and see the world and not be bound by the first man she fell in love with. In the end, she is free, and she is being true to herself. For me, this was a joyous and uplifting ending. But I will say that one of my favorite things about reading is that a different person, in a different mood, will interpret a story or a character in a really unique way, and all of you have enjoyed these books are free to respond to and understand their events, and the futures of their characters, just as you see fit. So please, keep the opinions coming!

Yours, Anna

Comments:

The book was highly unpredictable! I thought the end was kind of sad, but I got over it. It's nice to know that Diana is off on the kind of adventure she'd always wanted. Can't wait for your next series.

I agree. I'm glad that Diana got to explore the world, that she wasn't tied down by Henry, but I do wish that he got to go with her. Maybe not as her husband, but they were such an awesome couple, and I'm sad that she broke up with him so easily even when he meant so much to her.

I am happy that Diana went on her adventure but I wish Henry went with her I hope you will write anouther book were Henry goes after Diana

I think there should be another book that starts maybe a year or two into the future. 2 years from where splendor left off!

Posted by Daniel on November 05, 2009 at 06:16 AM EST #

I think you should write another book. I feel happy for Diana, but bad for henry, they should at least be together even if they are not married.

I really enjoyed this series, it was a great read, all the way through to the end. The details and descriptions were perfect. But, I was also crushed at the ending. Not that Diana left New York, she definitely was destined for bigger things, but that Henry was left as such a shell of the person that he had become to be through out the series. He seemed to really come alive after he meets Diana in the first book, and it seems that he really got the short end of the stick how he got stuck in New York with Penelope. From the emotional changes he made as a character, it seems like he at least would have searched for someone that made him feel as complete and whole as Diana did, and not just settled for Penelope. Or at least not given up so easily. From the Epilogue we can assume he doesn't go after Diana in Europe, but I really wish he would. Maybe not right away, but definitely at some point.

I am extremely sad that Diana and Henry did not end up together. It was an amazing ending for the series. Very unpridictable! Especially with Snowden!

Posted by Kaitlyn on November 05, 2009 at 11:00 AM EST #

Right, now i've finally calmed down about the ending i would like to say that maybe Di and Henry did split for the best but it wasn't probably the best thing for their future? I mean Henry stuck with Penelope all depressed is just heartbreaking he deserved so much better (and she deserved so much worse!! :)) and after Di is content with her adventures she'll be left with no one. I don't see her getting off with another man because I see Di and Henry's love as being true love and as Shakespeare once said 'the course of true love never did run smooth' (or something like that anyhow? :P) That is why i think as the other lovely readers of the luxe books are saying that making a spin off story/series on the characters lives in a few years will be the best! (One where Di and Henry get together at last!!!!!)

Posted by Ana on November 05, 2009 at 11:43 AM EST #

I agree with other people on this board you should write a book in the future where Henry and Diana end up together. She might be excited and satisfied for a while but once the adventures are over I think she'll miss her family and realise what she gave up leaving Henry. I could of accepted the ending if they grew apart through the book or if events had happened that led them to stop being in love but there was nothing until that very last moment when she decided to leave without him. I loved the series all the way until the end when I was heart broken. I really hope you write another series but if not I can at least imagine that one day Henry and Diana did reunite and lived happily after.

hey yall, i think there should be a movie about all the charecters children all grown up...like in the 20's

Although many readers have a clear mental picture of the actors they want in the movie roles, most don't know that the Storycasting website lets you post your own cast for each of the Luxe books, with photos. We're endorsed by HarperTeen. There are only five posted casts so far (three for Splendor and 1 each for Rumors and Envy), which seems way too low for such a popular series. We'd like everyone to 'have their say', including Anna!

ANNA CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR NEXT SERIES PLEASE? I STILL THINK THAT YOU SHOULD WRITE A 5TH BOOK WITH DI AND HENRY GETTING BACK TOGETHER. YOU ARE THE BEST AUTHOR EVER ANNA, AND I CANT WAIT TO READ YOUR NEXT SERIES!! :) LOVE YA! :D ELLA

Posted by Ella on November 05, 2009 at 03:21 PM EST #

i must say, i was incredably disappointed with how diana and henry were left off. but before i go into that, i have to say this I'M SO HAPPY ELIZABETH GOT A HAPPY ENDING!! everyone seems to be stuck on di and henry, but elizabeth has been trough so much and her ending up iwth teddy was absolutly epic. back to di and henry though. i totally think that anna should make another book in like three years (after splendor left off) where di gets into some trouble and henry somehow saves her :P idk, but in my mind they end up together. and in the last post by anna, am i the only one paranoid enough to think that maybe she was hinting another book?? idk, but HENRY AND DIANA FOREVER!! love, mary :)

Posted by mary on November 05, 2009 at 06:59 PM EST #

I can;t belive the ending, at first when i read it i felt sad, but when i started to thin about it, its not as if Dianas or Henrys life is ending. It's another beggining, for both of them. It's a chance for them to be happy, without all of those side effects. Im glad that Elizabeth finds peace. she desearves it. Thanks for writting these wonderfull books where i find an escape. I hope one day, you will follow us up on Dianas adventures, or we can continue imagining what is going on in her little world.

Posted by Jamie on November 05, 2009 at 07:41 PM EST #

I found the ending shocking and something different for sure. In which I am thrilled Diana gets to go see the world because that is her happy ending. However, she does also belong with Henry. I am so glad Penelope Hayes is ruined and I am very glad Lina can live peacefully with her sister and that Elizabeth Holland found her happy ending with Teddy Cutting. I absolutely love it.

Posted by Justine Glaser on November 05, 2009 at 07:56 PM EST #

Wow. So much to say. This'll probably be two comment posts. The Luxe series have reached an echelon in my book shelf i thought would only contain harry potter and maybe twilight. This series has always rung towards Edith Wharton for me, especially Lina and Lily Bart. For starters, it's a bummer that Leland couldn't forgive her. but i LOVED the line Lina tells her sister, that they're going to have a ball. I hope she falls in love again. For Elizabeth and Teddy, I am ecstatic. So perfect. And the Snowden murders? So unpredictable! I loved it! Nice that her father approved of her and Will too. Penelope got what was coming to her, but I'm glad she wasn't ruined. She and Henry do deserve eachother in a perverse way. But finally, I agree with Di's choice. She needs to see the world, and New York is no place for her. >>>(cont. in next post)

Posted by Diana Elizabeth on November 05, 2009 at 08:01 PM EST #

<<<(cont. from previous post) But I wish Henry wouldn't have let her go. I mean that makes sense too. But I wish they had a future together, if not immeadiately. This series has everything a good novel should have, and I adore every book. And as I've always noticed, a good series has a happy ending. An amazing series doesn't have a Happy ending, but a satisfying one. Thank you for this enthralling series, with its intricate details, and please keep us posted on your next series, and an open calls for a possible movie of the series! We love you!

Posted by Diana Elizabeth on November 05, 2009 at 08:03 PM EST #

Okay, so for a minute I would just like to dwell on Elizabeth and Teddy. I thought that was so absolutely perfect, such a happy ending. They are so good together, and he is so adoring and sweet, and she was initial my favorite character when I first started the series, so it was great to see her find her happy ending, after she had been through so much. Which leads to another ending with my favorite character: Diana. I got the book and glanced through, looking for pages with Diana and Henry before stopping myself and reading through it. I love them together! It is obvious how much they care for each other, and I just do not understand how Di could give him so easily after everything they had been through. <<<<<<continued in next....

Posted by Katy on November 05, 2009 at 10:23 PM EST #

>>>>continued..... While I am so happy Di is going to be able to have her adventures, shouldn't Henry have a part of that? And while I don't particularly care for Penelope, I couldn't help but feel bad for her. Yet, how could she end up with Henry? How could Henry allow Diana to leave? And, further more, hadn't Diana had a taste of adventure when she went to Cuba, and found herself truly happy when she had Henry by her side? They should be together! You should definitely write another book about the characters in a few years time, with Henry chasing down Diana... or, knowing Di, the other way around. Then again, it wouldn't be that hard to find the large Schoonmaker mansion on 5th...... I absolutely love the series, and I can not wait for the new series! It was entertaining and riveting, and I loved every piece! Thank you!

Posted by Katie on November 05, 2009 at 10:26 PM EST #

Please another book to finish, because you left me hanging, just like you did with the other books. I cried my eyes out when Diana left, and Henry just let her go. And now you have me expecting a Tiffany’s engagement ring… all four books talked about the superb rings. Anyways… you, Anna Godbersen, are a brilliant author!

Posted by Kimberly on November 06, 2009 at 11:44 AM EST #

I liked the way you did the ending. It was refreshing after everybody was falling in love. It would be great if you made another series of books because you are indeed a wonderful author.

i think that was a good ending and i dont think u should elaborate on the story that was then ending and part of a really good book is keeping ur audience guessing even if they dont like it. i loved the ending and it will probably have me stuck in a weird sort of mood for alot of days i mean the whole henry and diana thing sort of relates to me and my "situation" i mean i liked the whole u were my first love and will always be made me want to cry but i didnt and i think thats the best part and i like that it makes u think that like u will fall in love again

Posted by yanna on November 06, 2009 at 11:41 PM EST #

We desperately awaited the fourth and final book Splendor. We waited impaitently for what seemed like ages, for Diana and Henry to get the happy ending that was due to them. Although we understand, Anna's point of view, in that Diana will never be happy and satisfied until she gets her adventure, the most thrilling and exciting adventure for her was being with henry. Through all of their trials and tribulations their love stayed strong. And then, to find in the end Diana leaves Henry as a void empty shell, was heart wrenching. Especially to leave him with the vile Penelope who was the reason for Henry and Diana's unhappiness in the previous books. Henry deserves to be loved, if not by the girl we all rooted for, then by someone equally as charming. please heed our call and give us an ending worthy of Di and Henry's love. :) So we may stop crying over the loss of their love and realize hapily ever afters can come true.

Posted by Sara and Shelby on November 07, 2009 at 01:31 AM EST #

I for one thought that the ending made complete sense. Henry was one person when his father was alive, and a completely different one once his father was gone. He had a sister and a step-mother to take care of, and he couldn't just run away from his reponsibilities. And Penelope was probably the right choice for him in that respect - she always was one for keeping up appearances, and Diana never would have settled for that, nor should she have had to. Oh, and can I just say, the first time Snowden came into the picture, I knew there was something fishy about him. When I first read about the Luxe series, before I ever got the book, I didn't think I'd be into it. But I received the book as a gift, and read Luxe, and after that I was hooked. The ending of the series is sad, but it seems to me like it makes the most sense. If Henry had gone with Diana and deserted his family, I don't think I'd have much respect for his character....

Posted by melissa on November 07, 2009 at 10:58 AM EST #

I calmed down enought to think rationally aout the ending. Dianna HAD to leave Henry. She can't have her adventures when she is tied down by a man. Henry deserved better than to be dragged along on her adventures and Di deserved better than to be stuck doing what she had been rebelling against since the beggining. As much as I would love to see Henry and Di together, it would not fit their personnalities either way. Their love is so pure, but they are so different. They wanted and needed different things out of life. Anyway... Luv ya, Bri!

Posted by Bridget on November 07, 2009 at 05:35 PM EST #

I am very sad and angry about the ending you gave Henry. I understand that he and Diana wouldn't have worked and that for Diana this was a happy ending, but what about Henry? Here is a character you wrote so well that your readers grew to love him, and to leave him without a happy ending was very mean. He deserved some happiness, and I thought he might find it with Penelope, but you killed that idea in the epilogue. I think I would have liked Splendor better without the epilogue, so I could have imagined their lives afterwards. Diana (formerly my favorite character) was my least favorite by the end of the story. It was very selfish of her to break Henry's heart after leading him on and having him believe their love would last forever. I think Henry deserved a happy ending, or at least so small joy in his life at the end of the book. No offense, but I think it was mean of you not to give him a better ending.

Posted by Samantha on November 08, 2009 at 09:20 AM EST #

I have to say i really liked this book i have seen comments on here from others who where upset by the ending. No matter if they stayed together or not i love the book. The ending was beautiful and i have been where Diana was leaving someone because it wasnt what you truly wanted at the moment. But i look at it this way she was a young girl and from the first book we knew that the life she was born into was not the one she wanted. Yes her and Henry would have been great together and i would have been happy as well if they ended together. But he was turning into his father and Diana wouldnt be the regular wife. I love the ending like i said everyone got the ending they were meant to have i think. I say good job Anna i love the luxe series and have reread them and will contiune to read your books and tell others as well. Splendor was awsome it reminded me of so much from when i was younger.

I loved this series. I am a huge historical fiction fan and a little romance is always fun. I really did like the way you ended the series. It was a great ending because it wasnt unbelieveably perfect. Not everyone has their perfect happy ending. You are a fantastic writer and your descriptions are wonderful. Keep writing! I hope to read a new series by you sometime soon.

Posted by CE on November 08, 2009 at 05:07 PM EST #

I was so saddened during the ending when Diana just left Henry, because I had always seen myself most like Diana! I have the same feelings and characteristics as her, I am about the same age as her, and I believe that I also look a lot like her. so, I always read as if I am her and I truly felt the pain in leaving him. I was sad at how selfish you wrote her to be at the end, and it almost made me begin to dislike her, as she was formerly my favorite (and still is). However, how you ended it made sense because for them to be together would have meant Diana giving up on her dreams to see the world and be a heroine. I still see myself in her, and I always joke with my friends how if there were to ever be a movie or television show made from these books I would be the perfect choice for her! Haha, So, if there ever is a movie contact me :P

I love these books so much!! But I was so sad that Di and Henry broke up! I litterly cried for 30 minutes!! I agree with the people saing she should write another one in two or three years with Henry and Di somehow getting back together! They're my favorite charecters and I think Henry deserves so much more then Penelope!! However, I loved Elizabeth and Teddy's ending!! I thought the murders were a great twist to the story and how Teddy showed up after Elizabeth killed Snowden so she could be the chivelrious one!! I loved Splendor and am really hoping for another book with happy endings for everyone except maybe Penelope!!

Posted by Natalie on November 08, 2009 at 09:47 PM EST #

The ending to this book was very surprising but I'm glad that the end was not just like every other teen book I've read and the fairy tale couple ended up together in the end and lived happily everafter. Wrong!!! Why can't Diana end up happy just being independent?!! What a concept!!

Posted by Shannon on November 09, 2009 at 04:50 PM EST #

After reading the luxe books i find myself seriously wondering what it was like to live in New York City in the 1900s. I seriously hope Anna writes a fifth book. The ending of splendor was good, just not what we expected. I think that everyone will be super excited if she does. I don't think very many people liked the ending with Diana and Henry.

Posted by Liz on November 09, 2009 at 06:37 PM EST #

okay, i need to vent...SERIOUSLY!!?? Three absolutely wonderful books, a whirlwind love between Henry & Diana, highly anticipating that they will finally overcome all these obstacles that have been standing in their way and then she tells him no! Needless to say, I was disappointed. I know it's Anna's characters and her story, but still. That was just mean. Poor Henry, after all that he went through and then she tells him no. I honestly can't believe that he is going to remain with Penelope. Truly depressing. I understand that not all characters can have happy endings, but after all this build-up and anticipation, a true let down for me. Although, I do have to say, that I was at least very happy for Elizabeth and Teddy, that was a perfect ending! SERIOUSLY!?

Posted by Julie on November 09, 2009 at 09:14 PM EST #

I don't understand why the first 3 books would build up so much suspence for Di/Henry when in the end they would not end up together. It would be different if us readers saw that they were never meant to be or hint of them not ending up together so that came out of nowhere and I felt did not fit with the story. I was very dissapointed. It just didn't make sense for her just sail away leaving the love of her life and for what?? It's just not believable to me that someone that young living in the 1800's would leave their family and love one behind just to explore the world. Very unsatisfying ending.

Posted by Helena on November 10, 2009 at 01:56 PM EST #

I'm still reeling from this disappointment. I can't even finish reading the book! I keep picking it up, but I just feel so blah about what happens in the end, makes me want to cry all over again!

Posted by anonymous on November 10, 2009 at 09:20 PM EST #

I do have to say. It was a big let down after all the building up. It was like climbing a mountain, working so hard just to see a beautiful view and then never making it. You just fall of the cliff and die without ever fufilling your goal. But I still think Di did what was best for her. Luv ya, Bri!

Posted by Bridget on November 10, 2009 at 09:58 PM EST #

I geuss I'm glad things ended how they did for Diana. She was definitely my favorite character, and she just couldn't stay in New York. But Henry and Penelope?? Do they just go on tolerating each other for the rest of their lives?? But thanks sooo much for letting Elizabeth finally have her happily ever after!!

Posted by Regan on November 10, 2009 at 10:23 PM EST #

I thought the ending was sad, but I do have to say that if I were Diana, I wouldn't want to stay in New York. What is the next series about, Anna? Is it related to the Luxe at all? If it is, I hope I get to see more of Prudence, Henry's sister, cos I've always been really curious about her. Other than that, Splendor was great. Thank you! BTW, thank you for getting rid of Snowden!

Yes i know everyone on this board is probably gonna kill me, but I like to think that Diana and Davis end up together it would be cute, but eveyone, please don't hurt me!

I was so sad that Diana and Henry didn't end up together. I actually cried at that part. They were such an awesome pair and I was rooting for them from the beginning. But I'm glad that Diana is in Paris, having adventures. Im happy for Elizabeth and Teddy too, because she's been through so much. She deserves somebody who cares for her so much. And for penelope, I never really liked her that much, but I was also a little sad for her because of the prince of Bavaria. I was happy when she and Henry were talking, glad that they might become friends. And for Lina, i was so sad that Leland left her. But glad that when people found out what she really was, she could still continue with her fairytale life... and with her sister too. :)

Posted by Kimberley on November 11, 2009 at 01:24 PM EST #

i did enjoy this book up until the end. not so much because it was a sad type of ending, but because everything was so sudden. You talk of their enduring passion for four books and then in an instant it's over? It seemed a bit childish to come up with such a reason so you could keep them apart. And then saying that Diana didn't care what people that was obviously not the case because she kept saying how YES she did care. Sorry but this was a bit of a dissapointment

I completely ADORE your books! I started reading them in April and have been PATIENTLY awaiting Splendor. I think your work is completely incredible. I love reading the details of each house and the ornate dresses. You are not just an author you are an artist. Although your story ended on a sad note (for me) I think it was brilliant because I didn't expect it to happen that way. You novel kept me guessing until the very end, and thus I am satisfied. Although I did shed a tear for the end of the series, I hope that you will create more masterpieces that I cant read and enjoy for years to come! Keep up the good work!

Isn't it kind of strange how in the luxe Elizabeth goes to Paris being in love with Will and when she comes back she is still in love with will. It is sort of the same for Diana she left for Paris being in love with Henry. We don't know when Diana will come back but it is strange how their stories are kind of the same!

Posted by dan on November 11, 2009 at 07:53 PM EST #

Oh my, so many things to say! I think I will write you a letter, but sum it all up here. I think Henry should go after Diana. I think Penelope got what she deserved with her Prince. She was calling Diana a tramp all throughout the series, but really, she herself is the tramp! Lina annoyed me though; I think she could have behaved herself better. & I am so happy for Lizzie! Her ending is perfect. After her shocking discoveries about Snowden, she deserves some peace, and I think she is better with Will than Teddy. But she is good with Teddy too! I love your series, they are at the top of my faves. But one rewuest: If you have lovers like Diana and Henry in your next series, can they (the two lovers) be together in the end? Your avid reader, Simmy.

Posted by Simmy G. on November 11, 2009 at 08:09 PM EST #

First off, your writing is splendid. I to learn to write as intricately and smoothly as you do. Second, I appreciated the ending to the Luxe series. Although I think the book could have been longer so that some of the storyline could have worked more, the characters more or less end up with what they deserve. I hope Carolina takes initiative to help lower and middle classes climb the ladder easier by either creating a charter school or a charity. I'm sure Keller Cutting will grow up a pair of parents that couldn't be more similar when comparing pasts (heartache of the death of a loved one, killing "enemies" in a pointless war).

Posted by Lina on November 11, 2009 at 08:34 PM EST #

Diana's departure seemed a little abrupt but I always thought Henry and Penelope were better matched as a couple (even if they aren't in love with each other). I really enjoyed the last scene between Penelope and Henry: it was so heart-wrenching. I guess the only thing I wish for is a book that captures all of the characters' futures and where after several affairs with other idealistic and beautiful girls and after traveling around the places of Europe (and documenting the war?), Henry and Diana are finally ready for each other. That would make this series perfect. But it's pretty close right now anyway.

Posted by Lina (continued) on November 11, 2009 at 08:34 PM EST #

I think it is so bittersweet that Diana and Henry don't end up together. But I also think the point of the ending was to show that these are still teenagers who are going through trials of first love, financial security, and status. I can imagine Henry in his thirties, falling in love with another woman and wistfully describing Diana as his first love when he was young. The Luxe series was all about stories of rebellion and adventure that the characters will talk about later as their glorious pasts.

Posted by Lina on November 12, 2009 at 12:01 AM EST #

Everyone keeps going on about the ending but I have a few things I’d like to chat about before I get to that. As odd as it may seem to some (a lot of you say your favorite character is Diana) my favorite was will. He was so pure in his love and I was so ecstatic when Elizabeth went after him. As soon as they mentioned going back to New York I had this sinking feeling. I was devastated that he was killed and I couldn’t understand why. Something just didn’t sit right with me. I even asked Anna about this on her Myspace and she told me the reason for him dying was because it felt dramatically true. Very sly by the way Anna. Props for not giving anything away. But to me it still didn’t feel right. In Rumors I really didn’t think much of Snowden but when he was still playing such an active part in the Holland household in Envy, I knew something wasn’t right. Usually when something seems to good to be true, it is.

Posted by Brittany on November 12, 2009 at 12:54 AM EST #

Before Splendor came out I was speaking with my boyfriend, who also read the series, what he thought, and we both agreed that Snowden most likely had something to do with Will’s death. There was no other explanation. Will will always be dear to be but I was very happy to see Teddy come back. He is a good man for Elizabeth and I know Will would have wanted it this way.

Posted by Brittany on November 12, 2009 at 12:57 AM EST #

As for Henry and Diana, their ending disappointed me greatly. I just don’t see how after everything they had been through and how hard they fought to be together that Diana would just leave him like that and that Henry would let her go. I thought after everything that he would have settled his affairs in New York and gone after her. Not roll over and die. And certainly not decide to stay with Penelope. After everything she had done to him I just don’t see how someone could get past that. I think if there was more of a build up to show Diana’s change it wouldn’t feel so out of left field for me. It just seemed a little uncharacteristic of how the two acted. I loved the series and I will say it was an ending I didn’t see coming.

Posted by Brittany on November 12, 2009 at 12:58 AM EST #

Ok so ya the perfect happily ever after is too fake but I think the only one who GOT a happy ending was Liz and Teddy lol :p I mean suuure Diana is an adventure type person but I'm betting all my money that she'll have an empty void part of her heart that won't be satisfied because she's not with her true love! and the same goes for Henry. O well. Like a wise man saidd, If you love em let em go, If they come back its true love if they don't it was never mention to be :( ----HENRY COME BACK TO DIANA!!!!! haha----- o and call me crazy but I think it was awsome that will died it added a cool twist! Plus I allways wanted teddy and Liz together :)

I think the reason why people feel so unsatisfied is because there was so much solid evidence that they were truly in love with one another. People were just... shocked. I finished the story a few hours ago, and I almost cried. But I'm starting to understand that it just wasn't true love, and that they were both on different paths. But thank you for writing such a great story. =) I loved it.

My favourite part of the book is when Lina gets dumped by her fiancee. She finally got what she deserved. I have been waiting for that moment since the first book. I'm also extremely happy for Elizabeth and thought that is was so sweet that they're naming their baby Keller. After hearing that Diana and Henry don't end up together I first was sad. But the I began to realize that it's the only was Diana could have a happy ending. Plus Henry finally grew up. Bravo Anna. These books are the best ever

WOW!!! For the first time ever, I finished a book that has a sad ending and didn't shed a single tear. For some strange reason I was relieved that Diana rejected Henry's proposal. I always hoped for her to have great adventures, from the very beginning I knew through her thoughts that she is not meant to stay in New York forever. I was extremely content with the ending when I finished the book. AMAZING sequel. Hope you write a similar one like it in the future. I love you for bringing this wonderful world of scandals, balls, love, trust, betrayal etc. alive. I would give anything to live in that world for just one day.

I just finished reading Splendor. I'm glad the book followed as it did. Being a fan of Edith Wharton I was hoping you would not sew up everything with a nice bow. Well done. I enjoyed the series.

Posted by GRG on November 13, 2009 at 06:47 PM EST #

The ending was amazing. I believe that with all that happened it is good that Diana and Henry didn't end up together. They were both in completely different places in their lives and needed to go their separate ways. He wanted her to be an average housewife that threw parties, and she wanted to travel and have adventures. She wouldn't have been able to do that if Henry had come. And to be completely honest I would have said no too if I was in her position.

Love the series. I was thrilled with all of the books. The story was so original and involved, it made me want to be a part of 1899, especially with all of the descriptions of the luxurious lifestyle. I was terribly melancholy at the end though, I was really rooting for Diana and Henry. I would love to see a continuation, as already suggested, and am also excited to read any other books written in the future!

Posted by Nicole on November 13, 2009 at 10:44 PM EST #

I'm glad it ended the way it did. Henry was so PASSIVE. He never fought for Diana. Heck, at the end, he doesn't even have the energy to get rid of Penelope. Why? Because it was easier to stay married.

Posted by JMM on November 14, 2009 at 12:03 AM EST #

Ok, i am fine with the book except for one tinsy little thing... What about Leland??? why couldnt Carolina and Leland be together?and i know she lied and all but he should forgive and forget really.thats about it besides I LOVE Teddy. He and Will were the only reliable guys in the whole series!

Posted by Caitlyn on November 14, 2009 at 11:40 AM EST #

I'm actually very happy with the end. Diana is off to see the world and find someone new but I know she'll still remember Henry her first love. And I think it'd be cute for Henry and Penelope to finally be a peace with each other after both being heartbroken.

Posted by Ellen on November 14, 2009 at 04:22 PM EST #

I was so sad at the end. Henry deserved better. He was a good person and really loved di. Please write another book where they find each other again. Please!!!!

Posted by Jessica on November 15, 2009 at 01:16 AM EST #

I really loved the book. But when I got to the ending it wasnt really my favorite anymore. Yeah sure Diana gets to go off to Paris and everything. But Henry, after all he went through and gave up, was left sad and lonely. I really thought that, well Will was killed (which I cried a long time about), at least one couple should get a happy ending (which I was hoping would be Henry and Diana) but no, they didnt. And even though Elizabeth ended up with Teddy, in my eyes, it was never true love. The book just let me down a little.

Hey Anna, I was just wondering: how do you write? Do you have everything planned out before or do you make decisions as you go?

Posted by S on November 15, 2009 at 03:16 PM EST #

I think people should stop trying to sugar coat the ending by saying it was amazing. It may have been suprising but it was certainly not amazing. Its very selfish for Anna to have left Henry like that, smoking, lonely, and sad. He may have been not the best man in the beggining but he turned out really awesome. Anna went into so much depth into his character and I really learned to love him. And in the end he was left smoking, drinking, and horridly left with Penelope. I will feel bad for Diana that once shes left seeing the world she will have no one. In my eyes nobody ended up truly happy. Bravo Anna, what a wonderful book. :P

ANNA, PLEASE WRITE A FIFTH BOOK! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i just started reading Splendor and it is awesome so far, i just feel bad about what happens at the end. I reallyy do. Please make movies for your books and write a 5th pleaseeee!!

To all those angry at Diana because she left poor Henry: He had a CHOICE. Diana waited for him. She wanted him to go with her to Paris; to make a new life with her. Instead, he showed up with a big fancy ring, expecting her to become just another society wife, like Penelope. Diana didn't want that kind of life. She couldn't live that kind of life. Henry wasn't helpless. He could have taken initiative and divorced Penelope anyway. Instead, he just gave up and kept her.

What a splendid book :) The ending well...expect the unexpected! Truly, though,it was great. A little heartwrenching but because of that I loved the ending. Diana is going on an adventure she has always wanted. I'm so happy Teddy and Elizabeth are together, finally. Overall a great ending to a great series.

Posted by Moni on November 16, 2009 at 08:36 PM EST #

I soooooo understand now thanks ANNA!!! that is sooooo true!!!!!!!!! I was just sooooooo bent on them being together because it was just a beautiful bad romance that should have lasted like that would have been cool if Henry went with her... or he followed her after a while because he loved her sooo much and Di got to experience other relationships but knew Henry was the guy 4 her. He should have NEVVVVVVVVER!!!!!! cheated in Envy that was horrible :( But just thinking about it makes my stomach hurt!! You are amazing LOVE u!!!!

I loved Splendor! Another great book Anna! I am soo happy for Elizabeth. She finally got the happy ending that she deserves. I really wanted Lina to marry Leland tho. I understand why Di and Henry couldnt be together but i still wish it could have worked out some way!

Hello! Just wanted to let you know that i could not put splendor down! i think it was a shocker in the end but i think it was a lovely ending. i am sitting here waiting for more! haha. i think the ending was open ended so there could be another (cough cough) one. but overall i think they were amazing. i love your stories and hope to see a mini series or movie in the near future!!!!

Posted by lindsay on November 17, 2009 at 05:34 PM EST #

I just finished the book and i'm now going through depression:,( I understand that diana needs to adventure and see the world thats just her personality but i want Henry to be with her so badly!!! They won't find love like that again! But all in all i understand the ending but its just depressing. I loved the book and couldn't put it down!! thankyou Anna for writing such a wonderful series!!

Posted by Betsy on November 17, 2009 at 10:57 PM EST #

I am a huge fan of the luxe series and think that all of the books were great!! Although i felt that splendor should have been longer and explained more of what happens to the characters. I mean who does diana marry? What happens to her? Does she end up with Grayson Hayes? W hat happens to Grayson? Does Elizabeth have any more kids? What happens to Leland? I just felt like it should have kept going. I really hope this isn't the last Luxe Book! P.S : You should do a book signing in Houston Texas

Anna, I thought Splendor was a wonderful way to close out this series! I'm a older than your target audience (27), so I really appreciate the realistic ending everyone got. Fantastic job on the whole series. I truly enjoyed reading these books...so much so that I finished each of them the day of or the day after I purchased them! Thanks, and keep the good work coming!

Posted by Gaby on November 18, 2009 at 05:08 PM EST #

I was thinking in Splendor Edith mentions that she had an affair with Old Schoonmaker a long time ago. Is it history repeating itself? Since Henry looks like his dad and Diana looks like Edith?

Your books are my life!! I was just wondering, do you read all these comments? but don't get me wrong I love your books! my favorite character in Elizabeth, she is so perfect i just love everything about her! And do you know what she was going to call her baby?

Posted by Lizzie on November 19, 2009 at 05:25 AM EST #

Just a further comment that I forgot to add earlier - I was attracted to your books by the gorgeous covers and then got lost in the stories but I too am over the age for your target audience - I'm 60 and didn't even realise they were aimed at the teenage reader until I saw this page! Well ... I was a teenager once and I still feel the same as I did then :)

Yeah oh my gosh! JMM is totally right! Henry didn't have enough energy! Good point!

Posted by Emily on November 19, 2009 at 04:07 PM EST #

umm.... wow this book was totally unpredictable but i am glad that teddy ended up with elizabeth and they got their happaly ever after. penolpe on the other hand deserved that for making everybodys life misrable but that prince guy made me mad then he says "well you should be pleased most girls brag that they were the princess mistress's" diana and henry i felt bad for henry when they can finally be together she says no that she doesent want to be considered the 2end wife and people talk bad about her. but henry is now "the man of the house" and soo has to take care of everything and be presentable. i felt bad for lina tho cause the love of her young life broke off the engagement cause it was to big of a lie for him to forgive.

also is this officaly the last book im assumeing? i still LOVE the book

Posted by ashlie on November 19, 2009 at 05:08 PM EST #

I have never in my entire life have felt so many emotions at the end of the book as I did for Splenour. I swear I only got three hours of sleep max lst night aftr I consumed it in a whole day (despite homework). I was so overwhelmed that I didnt know what to think. It was just so...AAH! I was happy for Diana, sad for Henry, upset for the both of them. Penelope got what she deserved but you cant help but feel a little sympathy for her. The Broud sisters got their happy ending (te an extent) and that was good. I mean, I would so love for there to be another book but I would never be more satisfied with and ending like that. I truly was the most perfect book series I have ever read and I never say that. Generally my favorite book is whatever one I have just finished reading ad those generally are the high and mighty literary books yu read in advanced English college classes, but "The Luxe" series will from now on ALWAYS be my favorite. Thanx Anna, you truly are amazing.

P.S: If I were to make a movie on this book I would so play Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" at the end, softly in the background...thats all I kept hearing at the end in the back of my head. LOL Just saying.

Posted by Kristy Ortez on November 21, 2009 at 12:32 AM EST #

I thought your books were extremely good in general, especially Rumors. The ending of Splendor was a great deception for me because I thought Diana and Henry broke up so easily after chasing each other for such a long time. I really thought that they should be married, even though Henry had so many responsibilities after his father's death. Maybe they would wait a while and then get married when they're ready, when they have seen a little bit more of the world. Thank you for introducing me to the world of English literature. I only read French before and your books really made me realize how English was so interesting. Can't wait for your next series!

Posted by Sheila on November 21, 2009 at 11:21 AM EST #

I think the ending was perfect, especially the ending Elizabeth got. I think that if Diana had marrieed Henry she would have been unhappy. Penelope got what she always wanted even if she doesn't like it. I really enjoyed your book and I hope your next series is just as good!

Posted by Sarah on November 21, 2009 at 05:17 PM EST #

No offense Anna but I honestly don't see a point in the entire series if Diana and Henry aren't together. They went through all that, and it's really for nothing. Please write a 5th book and fix this. For people like me that can't stand it ending this way.

Posted by Kendra on November 21, 2009 at 11:32 PM EST #

I love the ending, even though I would have loved for henry and her to be together, but this was a terrific ending. I loved the series and wished that it never ended, I could'nt but any of them down. Nice job on all your books they were great.

I recently finished reading Splendor and I absolutely loved it, but, like many, I was sad to see a parting of the ways between Henry and Diana; so much so, in fact, that I was a little depressed and weepy for the rest of the night. I understand now why it happened the way it did, but I have a secret hope that a 5th Luxe book will someday arrive...I really think Penelope needs a bit more humbling, too. Maybe she is the one who needs to go to Minnesota and Cuba and California and go through a personality makeover.

Posted by Arianna Hawkins on November 24, 2009 at 01:27 AM EST #

That's a really good idea! Stranding Penelope on some sort of farm where no one knows the signifigance of her high society name. She would have to work and eventually go through a personallity change by seeing how good she really does have it!!! Luv ya, Bri!!

I disagree with some people, I think that Penny's reality check was with the Prince, did no one else catch this???

I LOVE these books! They are my favorite. I liked the ending but didn't at the same time. I liked it because Diana could go travel without being tied down with Henery. But i hated it because i think Diana and Henery should have been together too. I hated the thought of Penny and Henery together. I wanted to claw her eyes out!

Posted by Leah on November 25, 2009 at 10:00 PM EST #

I thought that this series was absolutely amazing. i really wanted Diana and Henry to get together, but when i thought about it this was a better ending. He had matured so much from the begining of the story, and he showed just how much just by doing his job as the man of the house. this also made it possible for Diana to leave New York which is what she really wanted. I am just confused as to why Leland never came back to Carolina after he told her that he still loved her when she told him what she really was. I loved these books and hope there will be more:D

Posted by Sara on November 26, 2009 at 05:50 PM EST #

I absolutely loved this series… except for the ending. Diana is my favorite character and Henry was so good for her! There should definitely be another book where they end up together. Happily Ever After!!! Is there any chance the series could ever be made into a movie? That would be amazing!!!

Posted by Becca on November 26, 2009 at 08:42 PM EST #

Although I understand why you did not let Henry and Diana be together it makes me sad because they were the ideal most beautiful couple i mean even though you could only imagine thier love it was very much so real more than any human being in real life ever experiences but thats the good thing about books you can say and do whatever you like in them. I also love how at the end you left the story open to where even though you may not you could write another book and i rather hope you do because henry realld does need to go after diana and id love to see the to broud sisters and how they turn out and if penelope ever finds happiness but i guess we will have to see!!!!! And BTW Envy was my fave book!

Hi Anna! I just finished Envy last night, so I haven't been able to read Splendor yet. It's been so hard for me to not look at all these comments and not spoil the book for me! Anyway, I just want to say that if the books ever become movies, I really want Leighton Meester to play Penelope Hayes and Willa Holland to play Diana Holland - they even have the same last name! Since you probably don't know, Willa played Kaitlin Cooper [Marissa Cooper's mischevious little sister] on seasons 3 & 4 of the OC. She looks exactly how I pictured Diana would, so I really hope you consider these two for parts, if you even get a say in the matter. :] Keep writing! I love your work!

OK so i was so excited for your book. But after i got to the 44th chapter i realized that there really is something demented about this. This happened in the third book with the killing of Will in the last two chapters. And it blows that you would make the last book of the series have a crappy ending also. For an ultimate romantic as myself you could not kill the story more than by not having Henry and Diana be together. I mean come out with another book and fix this mess because i bet im not the only angry teenage girl that wants a closure that someone could actually be settled with. I like to end books with this lovely butterfly feeling. NOT FEELING LIKE THERES A MISSING PUZZLE PEICE AND IM GOING TO GO INSANE IF I DONT FIND IT!

Posted by Miranda Rose on November 28, 2009 at 06:47 PM EST #

So i saw other girls post where they are all nice and begging for a different ending, not me. I am demanding a different ending. An author that can write stories as beautiful as yours aught to have a better sense of what a series should end with. I mean end on a good note with love and closure, not a bad note, with saddness and loose ends. Please before you have a rampage of teenage girls at your door, fix this blunder please. Thank You

Posted by Miranda Rose on November 28, 2009 at 06:48 PM EST #

I seriously believe you should write another book. Not even another Luxe book, just a book with a continuation of Penelope and Henry's story. They deserve happy endings and they were my favorite characters in the series. They were well developed characters I loved and I think they deserved happiness. Since Diana abandoned him, I think Henry deserves someone wonderful to love, who will love him back and actually stay with him. And Penelope should find happiness in some way as well. It's only fair. Please write better endings for these characters, so I can think about the Luxe books and not want to cry.

Posted by Samantha on November 28, 2009 at 07:18 PM EST #

Even though I was completely devastated by Diana leaving Henry, I think writing a fifth book would ruin the ending you created. The ending of Splendor was genius. It was different then all the other teen books out there. Diana's independence and how she developed as a person was noteworthy and having Henry chase after her would destroy the series. Stick by what you wrote and don't compromise with another book. The book was great! Thanks.

Posted by Anna on November 28, 2009 at 10:00 PM EST #

Yes!!!! I think a Diana sequel (possibly several years in the future), about her adventures in Paris, would be amazing. And she has to eventually visit her family in New York, so maybe when she does that she can see Henry.... I want them to be together so bad!

i was a fan of henry and diana from the start.i was not do happy with the ending.throughout all the books it would say how much they loved each other and wanted to be together.and then they made it so easy to leave each other. she followed him when he went to war and is now just going to leave him? i dont believe it and wish they can be together one day in a future book maybe...:)

It was very unpredictable with Snowden, and i loved that. I was disapointed to see that Carolina did not get married, however i thought it was great how she took in her older sister. I was upset to know that Henry was not to be with Diana, but in the end i thought that the way Diana left, was more of her character. A young girl waiting to explore the world. I love the Luxe novels and i wish they were to carry on(evn though the last book did have a kind of finishing feel to the novels). It would be fabulous if they made a film out of these. :P

Miss Anna, I absolutely enjoyed the first three of your novels, but have not yet had the chance to read splendor. From what I have heard, however, it sounds absolutely fabulous!! I wish to become an author myself and treasure your work. You are one of my largest inspirations and I hope that you continue to write.

You guys i dont think that anna is gonna write another blog since the series are over. there are already a 133 comments and there is still no new blog from anna. :(

Miss Anna,I recently posted a comment was getting ready to ready to read Splendor, and now I have. I am so very pleased with it, and like the flaps said, the ending was most definitely unexpected. I was very pleased the way Diana went off into the world, even though she loved Henry. Thank you, again, so much for having the guts to put your work out there and I only hope that you write another exhilarating series, and like all of your other loyal readers, I'll be waiting and anticipating it!!

OMG!! i love your books!! i was shocked at the end of The Luxe when Elizabeth died. Then i was so so so sad when Will got killed at the end of Rumors. and thank you for having a cast page because i couldn't figure out who was who(on the cover). please make your books into movies! They would be awesome!! Your books are awesome. I love books set in the late 1800s-early 1900s and on top of that they are chick-flick books!!

I loved the book!! It was so sad though that Carolina and Leland were not together at the end. I cried when Diana left for Paris without Henry.

I Loved The Luxe Series. But what i hated was that Henry and Diana are not together. I was crying because of that! Will there bea next book after Splender?? Oh please oh! Please!! I need to have Henry and Diana together!!

I think Diana gowing off is something very characteristic about her and that's why I am not to sad that she did not stay with Henry. I agree with everyone else that you should make one last book in a couple of years where Henry goes after Diana. But, at the same time, I am satisfied with the ending. I can't explain why I am happy she left, maybe because she did deserve better then a life of scowlding wives telling their children not to become like her. But, then again, Henry deserves better then being stuck with Penelope and I think he is Diana's true love so they should meet again and spend the rest of their life together. By the way, I am so happy Elisabeth married Teddy! And I knw Snowden was evil! I'm glad Elisabeth does not have to spend the rest of her life with the creepy man. And about Lina, I'm glad that she got to incorperate her sister in her new life. Emma

Posted by Emma on December 07, 2009 at 08:16 PM EST #

As I was nearing the end and Henry was rushing to propose, I just couldn't seeing it end up that way. I couldn't see her staying in New York. I knew she had to go. I was very happy she left to explore. She owes it to herself. If there was another novel (though, I don't think you NEED to write one. I like that it's open for me to keep guessing) it would be of Diana's adventures living abroad. I was very happy with the ending with Lina too and that she gets to bring Claire into her life finally. I always liked Claire. Penelope had it coming. And the more you wrote about Elizabeth, the more I started to like her and appreciate her. All in all, I am VERY pleased with a conclusion of a series I enjoyed immensely!

Miss Anna, I have commented two times before this and I have reread my favorite parts in the Splendor novel. It may surprise yo, but I keep coming back to the part where Henry and Penelope are siting together in their room at the end of the book. I find this part very strange, but I respect it. This showed me another side to your character, Henry that I thought you would not give him. If his love for Diana was strong, how come he was so content to sit with Penelope?

Posted by cate stangori on December 08, 2009 at 01:47 PM EST #

Anna, I think your books are great! I can get over the fact Henry and Dianna wont be together {Though I wanted them to end together badly} However what I cant get over is the fact this is the last book!!! my self and many other lovers of the series, want another book sooooo bad! we want to know, what happend with Dianna? how is Elizabeth and Teddy? was her baby a Girl or a Boy Babby Keller? will Carolina end with her loved one? how is Claire addapting? really YOU CANT LEAVE US LIKE THIS!!! So please PLEASE consider writing a new one. With A Lot Of Love ~Betsy

Posted by Betsaida on December 09, 2009 at 03:24 PM EST #

I feel soo bad for Lina. I was so happy for her when her and Leland were gonna get married, but I'm glad that the truth came out. I wouldn't be able to live a life that was a total lie. I'm glad that Teddy came back from war! He's the best for caring/loving Elizabeth the way he does. And back to the hot topic: why did Diana have to split from Henry??? I understand that her character needed to leave and have adventures, but why did she have to go without Henry? Or why couldn't she have married Henry and they went traveling a lot? I'm still soo sad that they didn't make it. But I'm glad that Penelope finally made a fool of herself...she got what was comin'!

Posted by Danielle on December 09, 2009 at 06:42 PM EST #

It's 2 in the morning and I just finished the fourth book. And I just want to ask, why oh why did you end 4 books of agony like that? I personally feel like the fourth book would have been ten times better if you let them get together! I went through the last year of my life, wanting Henry and Diana to get together. And I have to say I am very disappinted. I almost wish I never read the book, I am that upset with the ending. Talk about a downer.

Posted by Jill on December 10, 2009 at 04:51 AM EST #

But I also feel like there should be another book. I feel like nothing was fully acomplished. We have no idea where Henry and Penelope are going from here, or Lina. I just feel like there's so much unanswered.

i was devestated over Diana's decision at the end, but I highly respect it. She made a brave decision, and I think it was very Diana-esque. Diana was always my favorite. And Elizabeth choosing teddy! i loved that! even though i really missed will. and i can imagine penelope and henry's life. and i was glad lina finally admitted everything. overall i loved the book and i didn't want it to end!

At the end of Splendor I was relieved. It was as if I could catch my breath after a rollercoaster. A splendidly gorgeous, well-written rollercoaster. In the beginning, I was in love with Penelope. Dramatic, haughty, classy. But soon, I began to despise her. Diana became my favorite. She reminded me of me. I ached with her and was ecstatic with her throughout. Next, came Lina. At first, Lina was incredibly annoying. I could not stand her, but then, I saw a new side of her, a side which I grew to love. Diana was still favored. Finally, at the end of Splendor, I sighed a deep sigh and put it down. I was relieved for Diana and Elizabeth, but felt heartache for Henry, Lina, and-dare I say it-Penelope. As much as it pains me to say farewell to the handsome couple, I know it was for the best, and am thirsting for more. Thank you, Anna, for following your heart, and giving it a bite of realism. I can sleep easier, knowing all is well in Manhattan for a while. Keep Writing.

I disagree with the movie idea. The characters are too fragile. Everyone has their own interpretation of them, and if they aren't exactly what you imagine, then it ruins the books. Plus, Anna has no control over making a movie until she gets an offer. Moving right along.... I think I speak for us all when I please with you, Anna Godbersen, to write another post! Also, what's the point of the math question we have to answer?

Posted by Rachael on December 17, 2009 at 04:53 PM EST #

I thought Splendor was a great ending to the series. There was a good amount of forshadowing about what Snowden did. I am still very sad that Will died (I cried while reading that scene haha) but I am so happy that Elizabeth ended up with Teddy in the end. Diana going off was quite a shock too but in all, a wonderful ending. I think you did an amazing job on the books. I really can't wait for you to write more novels. What IS with the math question? haha

However, the series was great and i know this is a teen series but anyone at any age would enjoy this series. good job with it and i hope to read more from you. Also i must say that this series is good enough to be made into a movie.

You know, I Googled "Henry Schoonmaker" on a whim, just to see what would result. Aside from the usual (mostly blurbs about this series), there was one interesting article from the New York Times, dated from 1888. A Henry Schoonmaker, aged 24, committed murder-suicide by shooting his 22-year-old wife and then himself. No note was left and any concrete reasons behind the deed remain unknown. As a faithful reader of your series for the last four years, I thank you for giving us such a different conclusion in Splendor, with the best for all characters involved. I loved them well, and to see them live out their lives in relative happiness warms my heart.

I am still in the middle of the first book and so far I have to say it is amazing and that I am hoping that Diana gets Henry and that Elizabeth gets Will. Perhaps Penelope and Lina could find someone else. After reading some of theses comments, I see that that is impossible, and I, too, agree that it all worked out for the best.

OMG!!! i love and hate the book. i so wish you write another one. i would love to see lizze and teddy grow to love but really love one another. i would love to see what happens to penny after she already damage goods. and i would just love to know what happen to lina and leand. even though i think she dersve what she got. and for di i wish she get with greyson but to have henry grow up and go after her and live in paris or were ever else her heart wishes to take her. i love the books i could ot bring myself to putting them down. i thought they were even better then twilight. alteast you had more action and real love storie that people could relate to. can wait for your next book...

This series is the best series i have ever read. I am happy for Di's happy ending as I am of Lizzie's happy ending. I hate that Leland left Lina but I am happy and surprised by her ending. I HOPE that this series will become a movie cause i soooo want to see the characters in real life. I also like when at the end when Henry and Penny are talking and Henry says "Maybe we are made to be together." Please just consider making a movie!!! :D

I just want to say thanks for writing the series! I am only on the third book but I had seven friends recommend the series to me before I read it. I think that it is sad that Will dies, and I wanted them to become part of the society, but your ideas put a twist to the story. Keep on writing Anna!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my *********! Those books are amazing! I am on page 94 of the third book, right after the part where Elizebith was invited to go with Penelope to go to Florida! You should tottaly write a sequal to the series! THAT IS THE BEST IDEA EVER! YOU NEED TO DOO THAT! PPPPLLLLLLEEEEEAAAAASSSSSSSSEEEEE!? I will die with out it. I would recomend the series to any living thing in the next 5021 galaxies! Love ya Anna!

I agree with the people who say that this book series should become a movie series! But if you are going to be considering this, don't let the castings be too crazy. And the movie should be rated PG13, not R, because I along with lots of other people, wouldn't be able to watch the movie! Keep on writing Anna!

Hi, I'd like to know when the rest of your books (rumors, envy and splendor) are going to be translated to Brazilian Portuguese. I just love the first book and I really want to read the others, but we don't have they here. Could you please answer me? Thanks, you're one of the best writers ever.

i absolutely loveddd this series and i almost cried when i finished Splendor today because i didn't want it to be over. i was not able to get Splendor when it came out because of too much school work, but i got it a few days ago and i'm finished! i was a little upset by the ending because diana was giving up the thing she had been fighting for for so long, but i was REALLY happy about liz and teddy. i wish there was more, i will miss this series. i was really able to get into the characters, i usually wanted to slap penelope and i cried at the end of Rumors. can't wait for more of your writing =)

Posted by Adriana on December 21, 2009 at 09:36 PM EST #

I have been following this series from day one. Anna i must say you are a great writer, i love your style. I loved the entire series and have defended your characters many times in heated arguments with other readers of the series. However i cannot find any grounds on which to defend Diana's choice to leave Henry, especially when throughout the series he was the one thing that she faught for with all her might! That was very disappointing. I am happy for Liz and Teddy. Carolina's ending was definitely a bittersweet one but i hope she and her sisterr find happiness. Keep writing Anna, can't wait for your next book, whether it is a continuation of this story or a new story. Great Job and thank you for your efforts in this story and all to come.

I just finished with Envy and Splendor after a year-long break following my purchase and subsequent completion of Rumors, and I just wanted to complement you on how well-written I think everything is. I read a lott of books in the same genre as The Luxe. Many have unexpected and interesting plot lines and developed characters, but almost all of them are lacking in the writing style. Not only is it well-written, but it fits perfectly with the picture of 1900 New York. Thank you for a wonderfully enjoyable read! (:

Posted by Ariel on December 23, 2009 at 06:08 PM EST #

I know that you cannot make everyone happy and all but I really wish that there was a way that Diana could realize (like Henry before) that she truly needed to be with Henry and maybe come back to him after growing up a bit while abroad I do believe she should be able to see the world that is what she wanted after all! Like Elizabeth in the beginning she comes back from abroad and knows for sure that she wants to be with Will! I also would like to know about Elizabeth's baby and what the future holds for her and Teddy! I truly enjoyed your books but I also felt very strongly about Diana and Henry and as you said you couldn't make everyone happy but if you wrote more I am sure things could work out for them! I also know that sometimes as characters grow and develop they make choices that even you can't understand but I think you should expand and let the story develop just a little more! thank you! and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Ahhhh i love these books sooo much! and i loved this one! ahh but Diana and Henry, i loved their love! but i understand why she did what she did because she needed to do what she wanted not what everyone expected, thats just who she was! i was so pumped when i found out there was another. is there series over now? if so i will be so depressed!!! i love reading their stories and silently gasping at their decisions and wishing i could find a love like the one that some people in this series share! my boyfriend thinks i'm a total geek but i don't care! keep up the good work! because im completely hooked!

Your ending betrayed the characters of Diana and Henry that you spent most of four books building. I choose to read in the hopes of finding stories of characters that inspire. I feel like I wasted too many hours reading these four books due to the last few pages of the last book. I suppose I can expect more of the same in your future writings. First time reader, last time buyer.

Posted by Lora on December 25, 2009 at 10:33 PM EST #

I thought Splendor was the best book yet. I really wish there would be another book in this series. I feel happy for Diana at the end because she's young and has her whole life ahead of her, but I feel sorry for Henry and Penelope. I am also disappointed that Lina doesn't end up with Leland.

Posted by kiwi on December 26, 2009 at 06:03 PM EST #

I'm REALLY angry how Splendor ended. I spent so much time reading these books and I felt invested in Henry and Diana's relationship. I feel cheated that they didn't end up together. I don't understand how after spending so much time trying to be together that they just let each other go. This used to be one of my favorite book series and now its not. My only hope for this series is that they make it into a TV show or movie and fix the ending that ruined the series in my opinion.

Posted by danielle on December 27, 2009 at 06:24 AM EST #

Dear Anna, After reading the Luxe series and finally completing it today, I find that you could never change the ending of Henry and Diana as one could never change the ending of Rick and Elsa (Casablanca reference). Diana is destined for a more extravagant, liberating lifestyle then Henry can offer her. Plus, Henry can be somewhat (don't hate me) irksome with the whole I'm weak, decide for me Diana, then I'm strong, love me kind of thing which reminds me of the spineless jerk, Arthur Dimmesdale who only owns Hester in the end of The Scarlet Letter. Anyway, I just have to say that you are a brilliant writer, Anna, who has truly brought to life a new phenomenon, and, hopefully, this series will be made into movies and overshadow this painful tween obsession over vampires, and, instead of fake vampire teeth and pale complexions, the new craze will be that of the luxe series. Love Your Books and Hope You Continue to Write, Victoria

Posted by Victoria on December 27, 2009 at 01:51 PM EST #

Read all four books in a week.. Ended book 4 at 1 a.m. and was sooo upset! So Diana decides to see the world because she cared too much about what everyone would say about her behind her back? What? I thought she didnt care..she told Elizabeth that her love for Henry was the same as her sisters love for Will..well you had me fooled all the way through the series that this was going to be a love story with a happy ending. Wish I had known before hand and read the letter from the author first then I would not have wasted a week of my life... only to have such a depressing ending...of what could have been a beautiful love story..

Posted by Chelsea on December 27, 2009 at 02:46 PM EST #

That was the most depressing ending ever!! How could you do that to Henry?? I was excited for your next book series but now I'm not going to waste my time because its probably just going to leave me sad and depressed like your last book series.

Posted by Alanna on December 27, 2009 at 04:12 PM EST #

The luxe is one of my favourite series out, and i am absoulutly addicted to it. I just finished reading Splendor, and non-stop read it from start to finish. I absolutely love the parts with diana and henry in cuba, but i really hope you will write another book for the series, because even though the ending was good for diana, it's hard to beleive that henry and her, after everything, wouldn't end up together. Please, please, please write another book, i desperately need more diana and Henry.

Posted by Elle on December 27, 2009 at 08:13 PM EST #

I am not really happy with the end but I mean I was hoping for Henry and Diana being together and getting married so the book made me mad lol but I hope you will write another book to the series and let them be together cos i really enjoy the books and don't like the ending at all and i actually cried!!! :(

Posted by alicia ramirez on December 28, 2009 at 02:35 PM EST #

PLEASE READ THIS!!!!!!!!! Its me again I feel i have more to say for some reason like one of your comments said when Elizabeth asked Diana if she love Henry the same she love Will Diana said yes so if you would please write another book because on many of the comments some are really mad or sad about the ending and i really love your books but please make another book to the series and fix the ending if you could for them to be together because i love your books and I really look foward to another book and i dont want the other book if ther is one to disappointment me and me not buy you books anymore.

Posted by alicia ramirez (again) on December 28, 2009 at 02:41 PM EST #

Alicia, you can't "fix" an author's ending, sometimes the characters tell you what happens and just because a reader in disappointed shouldn't mean that the book needs "fixing" it almost sounded rude the way you put it. So please think of how much work Anna puts into these novels and think about how this ending is actually very good and in a way much more realistic.

Posted by Aurora on December 28, 2009 at 05:42 PM EST #

I love the books. I think that the ending was very appropriate. Life is not always perfect, more often then not, it's the exact opposite of what you wanted. Everyone complains about Diana just letting go of Henry, but we have to remember that Diana is sixteen and a hopeless romantic, she isn't ready for something so serious. Anyway, I adore the books. I hope a movie of the books is made in the future! Great job Anna!

Posted by Jenny C. on December 28, 2009 at 07:01 PM EST #

this is my first time commenting. i just finished reading the last book on my winter vacation to tennessee, and i was heartbroken when Henery and Diana split up. i really think that there should be another book to the series... where we see Keller Cunning growing up, and how Diana and Henery are holding up. and that there should be a TV series rather than a movie, but then again, there is Gossip Girl and 90210 and all those dramatic TV shows. i love the books and get so into them that when i read them during school, and when the bell rings, it hard to stop thinking about it and get back to reality. Anyways, if you're not going to make an addition to the Luxe series, then you should definately make another series. the books are fantastic and there is no way that you could stop now... Good luck and let us know if you're going to write another series...

Just finished Splendor...and I loved it! It was extremely unpredictable. Didn't see the Snowden thing coming at all, though I had a feeling he'd be out of the picture somehow. Kind of wish Diana and Henry had finally gotten together, but I think she is better off in Paris. No need to marry the first guy you love. I'm really hoping there will be a spin-off or perhaps another installment. I would also LOVE to see these books turned into movies or maybe a TV show. It would be fantastic to see acted out.

Posted by Caitlyn on December 29, 2009 at 01:19 AM EST #

I must say the ending did catch me off guard. But I still love it, it was refreshing! I think its very rude of the other people demanding you write another book to suite their opinion on Di's and Henry's relationship, though an allusion to Di and the gang would be wonderful in another book. I can't deny that I was sad that Henry didn't get a happy ending after all his growth though. The character growth was spectacular, and you opened me eyes on love! It was so not cliche! We have all been fed that we can only love once and forever and it just made me so happy to see a character love twice, and rise above challenges, and choose her yearning over love as was represented in Elizabeth, Lina, and Diane. I take off my hat to you Ms.Godbersen! Can't wait for your next book!

Posted by Monica on December 29, 2009 at 01:27 AM EST #

I was truly heartbroken at the end. I mean I know Diana should off and see the world, But Henry should be there with her to see it all. Or atleast gone after her! I truly hope that you make a fifth book, so Henry could have atleast go after her. I don't see why she can go out and look for him when he was leaving for the Navy and sacrifice everything for him. An he can not simply go after her while she went for him. I am just saying you should do a fifth book where he evenually goes after her. Please make a fifth book. I am cry when I get to the ending because there is no happy ending for Henry and Diana.

Like practically everyone on here, I think you should come out with another book, at least a little novlette, where Henry and Diana are together. I like happy endings, and i was so frustrated when I finished Splendor that I threw the book against a wall. After Diana chased Henry all the way to cuba, how could she just leave? it almost seems like the entire series was pointless. i know that there's a bigger meaning to her leaving, that she wasn't tied down and stil got to explore the world, but main plot of the story was just...killed. and Di will be happy, but henry will be miserable for the rest of his life! i don't want to thik about him with other woman! and penny desevered so much worst...oh well. but i was happy with what happened to snowden. i knew there was something bad about him, from the very beginning. and i was very glad the Teddy was happy. teddy was the only charactor i didn't ant to smack while i was reading the series.

I loved all the books. The style of writing was simply beautiful. The attention to detail was really refreshing, as well as the twisting and changing plot line. I could never guess what was going to happen next! I did wish at first that Diana and Henry had gotten married, but the epitaph really showed that she belonged in Paris. Diana was a strong character, and I agreed with her choice. I was so happy that Elizabeth and Teddy ended up together, although I wish the birth of Keller would have been included, because I would have enjoyed reading about Teddy's actions. Initially, I was sad that Carolina did not get her wedding with Leland, but in the end, I felt that every character got what they initially wanted, even if their opinion had changed. As horrible as it sounds, it was a good feeling that everyone seemed to get exactly what they deserved. Can you tell I finished Splendor ten minutes ago? I will definetly wait eagerly for any new book by Ms. Godbersen.

Spoilers! I got Splendor for one of my Christmas presents and I loved it! I felt like the ending with Henry and Diana was like a tribute to Newland Archer & Ellen Olenska from The Age of Innocence and Edith Wharton, the writer. Some people said it seemed like the ending was rushed and it needed more- I wished there was more so I can keep reading! It was not rushed to me, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I hope you are writing another series, or I will be very sad, because I love your writing style. 5 stars for Splendor....

I personally really liked the ending to splendor. I actually never really liked Diana's character, Penelope was my favorite. And yes, she was a bit harsh about how she got Henry but she loved him and don't people usually fight for what they want even if it was a bit mean. But yes I do think that you should come out with a fifth book just to tell us how everybody else in New York left off and how they're lives are. And how Diana is enjoying herself in Paris.

I hate that Diana and Henry didn't end up together, but totally understand why they didn't, even though I was heartbroken at first. I'm really happy that Elizabeth got her happy ending though, she deserves it and I feel sorry for Lina, but I got the impression that she'll benefit from her heartbreak, as she doesn't have to keep lying about who she is, but is still part of the elite community. :)

I wish that Di and Henry had ended up together, and I adored the books, but I'm not sure whether making another book would be good, as we already see the future for each character and writing a book about their future would make the ending of 'Splendour' a lot less effective. The Luxe is my favourite book series, but I feel that writing another book wouldn't benefit anyone. All the storylines have been tied up nicely and I feel that untying them for the sake of it would do more harm than good. Can't wait for your new material!

Posted by Sarah on December 31, 2009 at 08:17 AM EST #

Im just finished the book, and I think it is so sad how, in the end after yearning to be with Henry, Diana just says no to him! It made me cry just like when Leland proposed to Lina. It was so sweet how he did it in front of his family! Splendor made me cry more than The Luxe, Rumors, and Envy, it was just so sweet! I love your way of writing and how you were able to connect the book with real occurances from the late 18 and the early 1900's. I wish there was another book, because seeing the end of the series made me cry.

Posted by Lindsay White on December 31, 2009 at 05:38 PM EST #

Diana did love Henry as Liz loved Will. She was willing to leave her comfortable, safe life for him. As Liz did to be with Will. Henry, on the other hand, wasn't willing to do the same. He couldn't give up New York and the safety of his world for Diana. Diana didn't care what Society thought of her. She didn't care if she was gossiped about. She just didn't want to be stuck in that tiny world. Henry wanted to turn her into the same type of woman her mother and Penelope were.

Posted by JMM on January 01, 2010 at 12:09 AM EST #

I did enjoy the Luxe novels, but I was left feeling upset that Diana and Henry couldn't be together. Seeing Diana give her whole heart, soul and virtue to him all for nothing really, ruined my persona of a happy ending. I see how the ending was uplifting for Diana's character but what happens after she's explored life? Will she ever be able to find that same love she had with Henry? If Diana had never really found a true love or lost her virginity I would have said that Diana's ending was plausible but because they're love was so real I felt this ending didn't suit the story I had imagined. I just found the ending upsetting seeing the bad succubus (aka Penelope) get what she wanted and Henry had to spend the rest of his life with a woman he doesn’t love. Finally, I hated that Will died, but I was glad that Elizabeth did find a happy ending with Teddy, even though it wasn't completely perfect. I thank the author for her story and she should be very proud of her novels.

Ironically this story reminds me of another called The Age of Innocence, a story whose characters I weren't much attached to but after reading this story I can sympathise and empathise with the characters a lot more. Thanks.

I Was soooo Angry when Diana and Henry didn't End up together! My friend went into a mild depression and refused to read the concluding part of the book. she didn't even know that Lina didn't end up with Leland!

I absolutely enjoyed this series. I just finished Splendor and feel that it was perfect. It wasn't a fairy tale...it was a real life ending. So would you ever consider making the series into movies? I would just love to play a part of any of the ladies... except Agnes. Everyone kind of hated on her. :/

Posted by Lindsey marie on January 04, 2010 at 07:13 PM EST #

Loved the whole book, even if Diana didn't get the ending I expected her to. It was the perfect ending to the series, depressing, just a bit, but the right one. Absolutely adored Elizabeth's ending, she got what she deserved after her tragic year. Are you thinking of writing another series like these? And perhaps they would mention Diana, or we could meet Keller....

Dear Anna Godbersen, Will there be another book?

Posted by Lexi on January 04, 2010 at 08:30 PM EST #

I really enjoyed the ending! I think the whole series was great for multiple generations to read and discuss. I am 24 and have experienced a love like Henry (my Henry's name was Andrew) Like Di we had a crazy romance which ended with me in college and my Henry back home we kept in touch a while like Di and Henry, but slowly we both moved onto our lives. I think it is great to finally read a love story that does not end with the typical happy ending. Di was a true heroine to go off on her own. She was a heroine of the 20th century to leave everything behind and prove she could do it with out a man! GREAT ENDING for everyone! Carolina got what she deserved also!

Posted by Sara on January 05, 2010 at 01:48 AM EST #

NO!!!!!! thats no good!!! they have to be together and teddy and elizabeth have to be together although i did like the idea of diana and grason together... but seriously!!!! NO!!!!!! they love eachother and are perfect for eachother and although i did like carolina and tristan together i think leland is the man for her!!!! and as for penelope she can go and burn in hell!!!!

Posted by Katie on January 05, 2010 at 03:08 PM EST #

The ending drove me crazy! I felt like I read 4 books to see Diana and Henry finally together and when I finished reading I felt that I had really wasted my time. However, the books did keep me entertained. I guess I don't find the ending nearly as happy as I should. The only thing I liked about it was Teddy and Elizabeth getting together but I would have liked to have seen them as a couple more. In a way, Carolina got what she deserved also and while I was sad she and Leland didn't work out, she kinda deserved it. I'm still mad about Diana and Henry though.

I LOVE these books. They are incredible, great work. Though i am quite sad about the ending of Splendor(even though i haven't finished it yet, hehe) I suppose i can understand. I hope you write another killer series like this one. :) Keep Up The Good Work ~Rachel from OH

I have adored this series more than words can describe! The words and the descriptions are just beautiful! The plot is enough to make your heart stop beating for just that few seconds while you are sitting on the couch, but your mind is on a ship leaving the port of Cuba, and Henry has his arms around you while New York awaits your return....Ms. Anna, we are all praying that you eventually begin a new series, even if it is not based off of The Luxe! The kinds of characters that you are able to create have personalities in which I feel live within all of us. I hope to see your name on the book shelf again soon!

This was an AMAZING book. I couldn't believe it when Elizabeth pushed Snowden down the stairs, I wanted to hug her. And when she said yes to Teddy, I wanted to hug both of them! XD But then at the ending, I felt the strong, intense urge to rip your book apart. Sorry :( I understood that Diana could not be fenced in by New York's society, and I would have forgiven her for taking an around the world tour WITHOUT Henry with her, just to see what the world was like. Instead, the line "You will fall in love again," voiced from DIANA, of all people nearly killed me. So then, I naively thought that she would be back in some kind of epilogue, until you wrote that irritating chapter in which HENRY AND PENELOPE practically GOT BACK TOGETHER. Could you have at least left it as Diana breaking it off and Henry waiting for her return? And leave Penelope, who has mostly been a snob this whole series, to suffer? :( Besides that ending, I still love your books :D ~a still loyal reader of yours, annie

Hello Anna! I absolutely loved this series!!! I finished Splendor just this morning and it was great! I got it for Christmas. My favourite character would absolutely have to be Diana. She is so wild and fun and adventerous. And she loves to read just like me!! Teddy Cutting is a very lovely guy, I always wish I could have a friend like him, so caring and kind. :) Do keep on writing, because you write very beautifully and your books never bore me.They were amazing!!! Henry is rich... he can take her on vacations every month if that is what she wants. He can work from paris!! He can sell off his company and go with her! If a movie were to be made, I'd love to see Blake Lively play Elizabeth, but someone mentioned Leighton Meester as Penelope so it'd be too much like Gossip Girl. Either way, I'm dying for a continuation of this series! Only four books and already I have a new favorite author! High hopes to hear about future works! <3

Hi Anna! Just wanted to say that my friends and I love the Luxe series :) My favourite characters are Teddy, Henry, Elizabeth and Diana. For some reason I don't like Will. People think its weird but I just don't like him. I really think the Luxe would make a great movie with Blake Lively and Megan Fox. I don't know who would play Diana though... Anyway I'm looking forward to your new series! Happy writing (and reading) Leah

Posted by Leah on January 11, 2010 at 05:41 AM EST #

Hey Anna! I love your books! They are so intriguing. I wanted Diana and Henry to end up together. It would be great if a continuation of the series was written and Henry went looking for Diana and they continued their romance. When I read your books I feel like I am there with the characters. This sounds really really cheesy but I would love to live in the 19th century. The dresses and are all so cool. The history is amazing too. Okay I need to stop before I go too far. Thanks and keep writing. =)

I already miss this series so much. I read each book as it was realeased and now unlike any book series I have read before..just always seem to think back on the lives of these characters. I loved the romance of Diana and Henry and as much as I looked forward to Spelndor to see what their love would bring....I was not dissapointed in the end when Henry was left Penelope. To me that's REAL. The books came even more alive in my heart because I embraced Diana's stepping out into the world on her own. I love these books and I recommend them every chance I get ;-)

Posted by Logen on January 11, 2010 at 09:31 PM EST #

Dear Anna, I think it would be absolutely fantastic if you wrote a fifth book, maybe a few years after what occurred in Splendor. It would really make the perfect ending, knowing how everyone grew older, and such like that. It would also be absolutely fantastic if The Luxe was made into a movie, I would definitely see it if it was. Anyway, good luck with your next series, I'll be sure to read it!

Posted by Paige on January 12, 2010 at 03:19 PM EST #

I honestly loved the whole series. The way Di and Henry played out was depressing to say the least but, life goes on. I was just wondering if you would continue with Dianas story as a writer and in paris, it seems like so much more could have been said for her. Anyway thanks for writing something so great. :D

Just a thought but Elizabeths child was supposed to be born in 1900 and the new series takes place in 1920 so would it follow Kellar.

Hey, I really love The Luxe series so much and I LOVE Penelope so much, and Diana. Penelope is just such a schemer and brings so much more to the book. I'm just reading Splendour right now and I am on Chapter Thirteen, where Carolina meets up with Tristan, so I am just clued to the pages right now! Bye bye, love, Robyn

Posted by Robyn Cee on January 17, 2010 at 10:18 AM EST #

I was sooooooooooooo miserable about the ending of splendor i had SO looked foward to a "happily ever after" for Diana and Henry it was super depressing to think that Henry was stuck with someone as nasty as Penelope! Although i was really thrilled when Elizabeth got Teddy in the end :) Well, i hope you do write another book in which Henry goes after Diana and this time ends up marrying her! ps: i look forward to watching a movie of the Luxe.

Posted by zainab on January 17, 2010 at 11:35 AM EST #

The ending devastated me. I dreamt of Henry and Diana together. I said I would be so upset if they didn't. Oh I have written a sequel in my head where he finds her on accident and it is fate for them to be together. You should put that on paper. =]

Posted by Jelli on January 17, 2010 at 09:49 PM EST #

I absolutely loved the ending!! it was unreal! The whole book i was getting disappointed (not because of the reading) but because I kept feeling like i couldnt handle another happily ever after ending.. And it didnt!!! The ending was outstanding and i really had nothing to say at the end of it!! it left me speechless! I love books that leave you satisfied with the endings, and i find it hard to come across a book that is soooo amazing in content that can achieve an amazing ending to top off the series/etc. (Harry Potter is a poor example of one that could not met standards for a good ending ahaha). Thank you sooo much for writing these amazing books! And i do wish they would be turned into movies... maybe soon...??? With love, Acklin Ps. I think you should write more books like these (((:

Posted by Acklin on January 18, 2010 at 12:34 AM EST #

The ending was bittersweet. Ofcourse, I would have loved Henry and Diana to be together, but Diana Holland is not girl to be tied down. Her love for everything bigger than herself made her my favorite character. It would do her an unjustice to have those dreams taken away from her. Henry Schoonmaker is a lucky man to have been changed by Diana's precociousness. The series was everything I ask for in books. I'm heartbroken they had to end. Thank you Anna Godberson for sharing something truly wonderful!

So, is there any explination to the mysterious disappearance to Anna? Perhaps she's letting us rant so she can sum it all up in her next blog. Or maybe she somehow managed to defy gravity and fell off the face of the Earth. This will send her tumbling through space for a little while until she suffocates and dies. Seriously, Anna, we miss you!

Posted by Rachael on January 18, 2010 at 01:04 PM EST #

Hi Anna! I just finished Splendor today and, while I am heartbroken that the series had to end, I am thoroughly satisfied with the way things turned out. These books are everything I love in a series: love, intrigue, glamour and utterly lovable characters! They aren't just some shallow, generic read like many in the teen section, but are wonderfully written and very unpredictable. I adore historical fiction; the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries have a romance that we can never emulate; and it's nice to know that there are other people out there who like it too! I am so glad that your next series will be historic, too. I haven't read Edith Wharton, but now I want to!

Posted by elle on January 19, 2010 at 08:25 AM EST #

lol, I guess I'm one of the few who appreciates the ending of Splendor. As much as I love Henry/Diana together (I hate Penelope!), it felt right that Diana didn't get with him; she's so adventurous, outgoing and filled with so much energy that it wouldn't felt strange that she settled with Henry when she has so much time. That's what I love about her. And well, Henry doesn't deserve her (>.<) So I'm glad for Diana (I'd like to see more of her if you ever do in the future!). As for Elizabeth? Kinda bittersweet, but I'm really liking Teddy and them together. So really, not the usual norm for closing a series (I'm glad for that! This series is realistic!), I still loved the Luxe series. And, y'know, I wouldn't mind another Luxe book if you changed your mind or something...

Posted by Bianca on January 20, 2010 at 12:45 AM EST #

^Oops, I made a typo. I meant that it would have felt strange that she settled with Henry when she has so much time and energy.

I <3 the whole luxe series. I realize that Di is not one to settle down. But just dumping at the last second? Even when she still loved him? To me it doesnt make sense! You should defenitly write another book, where it takes place in a few years after Splendor, and hvae Henry and Di meet after all those years, and still realize that there love never worn out!!!

Posted by Rebecca on January 21, 2010 at 07:57 PM EST #

Posted by Jessica on January 22, 2010 at 06:35 AM EST #

Thank you, thank you for ending Splendor in this way. Di is only 17? in this book. No way she can know if Henry is the ONE she should be with. At this young age, you have so many adventures and so much to live for. I know that so many wonderful young women believe, in fact, know that true love is the only thing worth living for. But, there is so much more. The chance to find who you are without a man, the chance of trying many men, the chance for travel, the chance of adventure, the chance of mistakes, and on an on. Thank you for giving Diana the chance to find all of this and not settle her bright star by confining herself too early. I love Di & Henry but I love even more that Di has the courage to be true to herself and not rely on a man to define her. What a wonderful message for today's young readers. Bravo!

Anna, your books are truly amazing! Every paragraph you write has such detail, that I can really truly picture the setting and what is going on at that particular moment. I feel like I'm there! I have to say that I am truly upset that the Luxe series is over, because they are, and always will be my favourite books. I sometimes wish I could go back in time and experience what it was like back then, because the way you make it sound, is great, but I'm sure it was a tough time, for women especially. I do hope you will write more books of this time, and/or more series, because you are an incredible author! Thank you so much for writing these books! Emily

I really did enjoy the first 3 books but the ending of this one left me heart broken. I think it was a suitable ending for Diana if the books were written in a more modern time but in those times, women did not just leave the men they love to sail away and discover the world which is why it devastated me. It was also so unfair for Henry to be left heartbroken when he changed and was trying. And as for Lina and Penelope? well they still basically got what they wanted, wealth for Lina and Henry for Penelope. I didn't see the justice really in this book except for Elizabeth. I did love the first 3 books though and hope for a fifth to reunite Di/Henry. The ending just seemed abrupt.

Posted by Q on January 29, 2010 at 10:27 PM EST #

I can understand if Di left Henry in the present day but in the 1800's people marry young and fall in love young so the ending was a complete devastation. How often do you hear of a woman just abandoning her life to explore other things and to make it on their own? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for independent women and believe a man shouldn't keep a woman from anything but it just does not make sense for this story. The ending does not suit the time it was written in and was off track. I mean so Di sails away yet Henry stays behind married to Penelope out of family obligation? I just don't see the flow in the characters and writing style for the time it was set.

Posted by Mel on January 29, 2010 at 10:41 PM EST #

Diana never fit the time periond so why would her ending? It makes sense for her personality. Elizabeth was the good girl that did what she was supposed to and Di was the girl making out in closets. She should have been born in a different time period and that's why her actions show that rebellion.

If Diana didn't fit the time period then what was her character doing in a book during this time period? Why did she cut all her hair off and go after Henry and then out of the blue "oh well, i changed my mind, i'm going to sail away". Yeah that really makes sense.

PLEASE tell us what your next book will be about! I love your series and I would love to read more! MORE!!!!

I loved the ending. It was sad that Diana did not end up with Henry but at the same time they both wanted different things. Oh and I loved how Elizabeth and Teddy ended up together it was perfect. I wanted her to be with him ever since her husband died.

hi anna. i have read the first three books and i am currently reading splendor so far, i am in love with it!! You are an amazing writer. I was wondering if Luxe or any of the books in the series have been turned into movies. i've seen trailors, but is there a movie. i would very much appreciate of you write back!! thank you

oh! everybody says they hate d 4th book..is it really that disppointing?

Posted by ornell on February 14, 2010 at 06:46 AM EST #

they say it's a gossip girl like series its just that its setting and plot's the 1900's but i dont think so..its too far beyond being gossip girl series..oh well characers are similar but i cant picture serena nor blair in the story..what ive just found similar were the lines in the book where ms.anna used gossip girl tv series lines where blair said: no offense intended and little j. replied none taken..the lines were used b/w the characters of penelope and lina in the book...:)

Posted by ornell on February 14, 2010 at 06:51 AM EST #

All I can say is these books are amazing great work Anna. Something that would be even more amazing would be a Luxe movie. That would be something truly fabulous and I know I would be front row and center on opening night.

Hey, I am delighted with the book. It is great. I really enjoy in imagining all those dresses and pretty girls and gentlemen. I wish I could have a original book, in English, but I am from Serbia, don't have where to buy it... But the book is fantastic. Really. Congratulations. :)

I'm french girl, and in France, "Envy" and "Splendor" are not on shop! I really love "Luxe" and "Rumors" ( in French "Rebelles" et "Rumeurs".. ) but I through this book is very very cool! It's great... I write a story with girls & boys on New-York, and I inspired by the serie ... (: so Thanks Anna for all the splendids books... These books are really great.. :D

I'm honestly happy with how everything ended up. Just sad that it didn't have that much Elizabeth and Teddy parts. I mean It was all Diana, sure she had the hardest choice, to say but I'm glad she left Henry and hopefully she will forget about him. I actually think Henry and Penelope belong together. Over all, I'm so happy how this book turned out. I don't usually like reading overly romantic novels but this was my exception. Thanks so much for being an awesome writer Anna, keep on writing..... :] With Love Kaithlin

I love your books,Anna!! You're a great author! I just bought "Splendor" and I've started readin it already!! :D I'm kinda different from the others,my favourite character in The Luxe series is Elizabeth Holland (known as Lizzie). Hope you'll publish the 5th book!!!

Posted by Victoria on February 20, 2010 at 07:05 AM EST #

Hey Anna, I love, love your books. Im trying to get my mother to read them but she is a it caught up in the twilight books at the moment. I agree with what all most every one is saying they should make a movie's out of your series but it must be done right and you should continue the series but with all the characters children in it.

Posted by Sarah on February 24, 2010 at 01:31 PM EST #

I had just finished the whole book series and I fell in love with them. At some parts I was really happy and others I was sad. I was happy for Elizabeth because she got to keep here baby and marry Teddy. And I got sad When Diana left Henry because I thought they were going to be happy together forever. The only charcter I did't like was Penelope because the frist time I read about her I knew she was no good. I really want to now what happened to Carolina and Leland, Elizabeth, her baby and Teddy, Henry and Penny and most of all Diana. PS: Please continue the series and you should make the book's into a movie they would be really good.

Posted by 43Renee on February 25, 2010 at 07:54 PM EST #

I just finished reading Splendor and I let my friend borrow The Luxe, hoping she'll get hooked on it as well. I can totally relate to Diana so I understand why she left Henry..I'm glad not everyone had a happy ending. But I'm a little dissapointed Carolina and Leland didn't stay together! But anyway.. I loved the series :)

Thank you for writing these books!!! I am so in love with them and the characters! Especially Diana! I absolutely love her! She reminds me so much of myself it is scary! There are times I'm reading the book and I say I wish I could go back and be her! I would love to know if you will ever turn these book into a movie? I think it could be beautifully done, between the outfits and the settings. If you are I would love to know about it and I would love to be a part of it. Keep writing! ~Emily

Amazing amazing amazing!!! I was so happy about Elizabeth! I always loved Teddy! <3 I think it is good that Henry and Diana split and I am glad that Penelope got Henry because, poor girl, she just doesn't know what she wants. It was satisfying to see her get dumped by that prince though! Thanks! Juloa P.S. Are you writing another series?

That was one of the best series I've ever read! It's hard for me to find a book that I like, but once I read the Luxe I couldn't stop. I still haven't read Splendor yet though......my school library is still trying to find a paperback version. You are such a talented author :) Please write more books!!

Hello, I just wanted to say that absolutely LOVED The Luxe series. Henry has to be my favourite character, simply because he grows so much as a person throughout the course of the books. I was rather disappointed when Henry ad Diana did not get their happy ending together but I understand why you wrote it that way. After having not being a fan of Lina for the first three books I was pleasantly surprised when I came to love her whilst reading book four. I think you are a fabulous author and I cannot wait to read your future works!

Posted by Emma on March 09, 2010 at 04:45 PM EST #

I was wondering: if Elizabeth had an epigraph, a motto, .. what would it be?

Posted by Lizzy on March 10, 2010 at 12:07 PM EST #

Anna, you should make the series into a film because I would love to see the book come from something that even people who prefer not to read books can appreciate. I love the books because you always think something else is coming and it has unexpected turns. Diana is one of my favorite characters in the series because she doesn't care as much as to what others think of her. If you do make the series into a film I think you should consider Robert Pattinson because he is the person who comes to mind when I think of Henry. Even if you don't I love the books and they are books that can be read over and over again. Thank you for writing such wonderful literary work.

I really think you should write another book to about what happens to Elizabeth & Teddy & about what has happened with all of the other characters! I really love your books & this series.

Posted by Ashley on March 19, 2010 at 02:05 AM EDT #

i loved all the books! i have to say, i liked the ending but only because you can tell that Diana did not love Henry that much. I think perhaps she needs to grow up and realize that your first love can be your only one. Elizabeth and Teddy was perfect. I always wanted her to love him! Penelope got what she deserved. But of course Henry did not get what he deserved because he really did love Diana. I always liked Di, but by the end she was acting reckless and immature. She loved Henry and Henry loved her, so she leaves him? But anyways, AMAZING books!! loved them!!

Posted by beeden on March 22, 2010 at 05:49 PM EDT #

they were great books!! i just wish di and henry got together in the end, and penelope ended up alone.but elizabeth and teddy??? soooo happy because they were meant to be!!! great job anna!!!

Anna, Your books are amazing! I love The Luxe series, all the way through. I really, really would love for you to write another one though. I just, feel like Henry and Diana really need to be together! [: But who knows, Penelope and Henry could have something starting too. And you could have a whole other story of Elizabeth's baby! Oh my, I just love this series soo very much, and I hate to see them end! Will the books ever make it to maybe a movie, or a television series? I sure hope so! Love you Anna!! -Justine

Posted by Justine on March 24, 2010 at 06:46 PM EDT #

I loved your series. And absolutely adored your characters. They feel very human, full of wonderful hopes and dreams, desires, and ambitions, and enough flaws to make one cringe! I love the twists and turns, and although majority of the public (including myself) is used to a typical happily ever after. I must agree that Diana's ending makes perfect sense with the whole feminist message of the series. Overall, I devoured each book and I hope you go on a book tour :] I look forward to your next project.

I was completely and utterly consumed by the series of books that I had only just come across. Sometimes they made me punch the air with joy and then in the same breath I was sobbing for the heart broken characters. I love them, plain and simple, I was truly sad to have read them knowing there were no more to come. Which by the way, I read someone's comment of making another book set into the future where Henry and Diana were together. I would LOVE it, and jump and down but then I remember that your writing is not always as fairy tale as my heart wants, and more real to life. So I doubt they'll ever really be together. So on one hand I would love it and on the other I don't think I can take the roller coaster of emotions. Whatever you decide to do and write next I will definitely be on the look out for it. Your story was a complete escape into the past.

I love the series, I have read all of the books many times and still cry at the end!! I love Diana I think she is such a spiritually free character and I wish I could aspire to be like her! (= Pleeeeeaaase write another book... It would be great to see how the society reacted to the Broud sisters, and what happens to Elizabeths baby! Oh and it would be amazing if films were made of all the books - it would be just magical if we could really see for ourselves the dresses, the balls, the places they visit and of course witness the scandals!!

Posted by Shezbez on March 28, 2010 at 01:26 PM EDT #

To be honest I was crazed when Henry and Diana didn't get together but after I calmed down I realized that was how it had to be. Still sad Henry's stuck with Penelope though, that doesn't seem fair...although life isn't fair. Anyway, I really just wanted to post something in favor of more Luxe books. I don't care if Diana and Henry get back together but I really miss the characters and want updates about what they are doing now! (silly I know.) So that's my two cents, more Luxe!!...or just Diana and her adventures, haha! :)

Posted by Crystal on March 29, 2010 at 01:51 PM EDT #

Hey I really loved the books so far, haven't finished them though, but I've thought, making them a tv series, or even a movie could work perfectly, it would so diferent from anything else! (Having Megan Fox as Penelope would rock btw) So Just passing by to wite that, anyways, my favourite characters would be Henry and Penelope, anyone else loves them?

Posted by Carolina on April 03, 2010 at 01:44 PM EDT #

I loved your series, I don't think I have ever enjoyed a series more. The ending shocked me, Diana was my favorite and even if she gets to go be herself, I feel she could have still done that with Henry. All four books worked up to how her and Henry could be together, and in the end she left. It almost depresses me, but at the same time it is beautiful, because she can go on her adventures and Henry and Penelope are together. It's funny at the end how Penelope and Henry get together. I think he could do better, but the fact that they are both so exhausted from their previous relationships, so that they fall back on each other, just how society thought it would be from the first page of ...there's something amusing about it. No matter the ending, your books made me happy, I became obssessed and passionate about them. I wanted to be Diana until she left Henry. I still admire her. I've felt so much through your characters, it's amazing. Thank you a million times over (:

I Finished it today and I am totally Shocked!!! I loved it! But of course like everyone, I wanted Di. and Henry together sooo much!!! There was such a suspense builder in the book making you wait until they could finally be together!?!?!? BUT THEY DIDN'T!! I no she wanted to travel but he could have wait for her or something!! And he just ended up with PENNY!!! URGGGHH!!!! I wish there was more with Lizzie in the last book with Teddy but I'm fine with them, I feel sorta bad for Lina but she just got over Will soo fast mann! Still, the whole Di. and Henry thing was soo SAD why couldn't they be together?? I no she didn't want to be tied down but still couldn't they have later years after Henry's divorce see each other and start the reunited love again? I HATE HOW he didn't get his happy ending and had to be with Penny! They never truly will love each other so why not just at least divorce and find new loves!?!? Byebye Bloggers!

I absolutely LOVE all of the Luxe books! And I was so excited for Splendor, but I really didn't like the ending. Henry didn't seem like just a first love, he seemed more like Diana's reason for living and after everything she can just leave him? I mean if she loved him as much as she said she did and how she couldn't stand to be apart from him how could she not still want to be with him? They could have been married and still have adventures and travel places. In the end no one really got what they started out wanting in the Luxe. Life never is how you expect. Some peoples stories didn't end how I liked, but I liked how most things turned out except for Di and Henry not being together!

continued (and yeah i know i posted 2 of almost the same comments):Life and love never is how you expect. Some peoples stories didn't end how I liked especially Di and Henry not being together! Diana would most likely wonder the rest of her life if she made the right choice and imagining what an amazing life she and Henry could have had. Agree with everybody else that Anna should make another book where Henry and Diana finally get together and not when they're like old and crusty, but when they're still young and realizing they can't live without each other.Well that's my opinion anyways =]

Has anyone hear about her new book bright young things? I think some of re people who have posted things on this blog would be much happier if she made a fifth luxe book telling us about what happened to diana and henry but now she is on a whole new series and it kinda made me upset when I heard about her writing a new book but it wasn't about the luxe. I just wanted to but that all out there.

Posted by Sarah on April 18, 2010 at 10:14 PM EDT #

Sooo dissapointed with this ending! I felt almost betrayed at the way you made us fall in love with the idea of Henry and Diana for nothing at all. It was frankly just pretty depressing. It may be realistic, but most people enjoy reading about things that are out there and amazing and make them want to be the character. I in no way wanted to be Diana Holland at the end of these novels. Don't know if I'll read any of the other series...

heey i also think you should write a new book but i guess that henry and penny got eachother now even though henry went from a player to a gentleman after meeting di he still is better of with penny because if he really wanted di he wouldve went after her but he didnt she deserves so much better and shouldnt settle down so fast i think she made the right choice henry was her first love but surely not going to be her last

hi anna! will there be a way to make WILL KELLER come back again in the story?(hoping there will be a 5th book for luxe series!!) i'm a huge fan of WILL-ELIZABETH loveteam. they are my favorite characters and my heart sank when he died. i have a huge crush on him and i just can't get over it. i anticipate he'll appear in Splendor (thinking he's still alive) but much to my dismay, liz and teddy ends up together. i have nothing against teddy but i believe that nothing can replace your one true love. hope you could still do somethin' about it. =) cheers! =)

Posted by Claire on April 30, 2010 at 10:18 PM EDT #

Hi Anna I absolutely love the Luxe series. Each book has such a wonderful and interesting story line. Jammed packed with secrets, betrayal and stories of true love- this was by far one of my most loved series. I really think Penelope was so scheming; it was like she had everyone wrapped around her pinkie. I love Diana and Elizabeth, their family is so lovely. It is funny how both Elizabeth and Diana want to run away with their true loves, despite what their mother’s wishes. My favourite character is Diana because she has such a fantastic personality, though I love the description of Penelope’s clothing. I really hope you are able to write more wonderful books like the Luxe series.

Posted by Lauren Trickey on May 01, 2010 at 04:22 AM EDT #

this is about Elizabeth, my fav. character since the start, YES!! i liked Will, but I loved Teddy even more, and I'm so happy that they got together. I loved Teddy from the minute I picked up Envy, and was extermly mad when Elizabeth married Snowden.(which was fixed later! :) ) With Diana and Henry, to be honest, I think Ms. Godbersen had the most perfect ending. I think. I think that Di and Henry made a great couple, and I wish I had my own Henry, but I think Di did the Diana kind of thing. I had tears when I finished, it was such a lovely ending, i thought. I'm sad about Lina/Carolina not getting married to Leland, but oh well. I like that Claire was brought into the picture. The best book I ever read, in my mind.

Posted by Lissi on May 04, 2010 at 05:58 PM EDT #

So this is a dumb question, do you prounouce Carolina's nickname, Lina as: .Leen-a or .Line-a ?????

Posted by Tawny on May 04, 2010 at 06:00 PM EDT #

Hi anna.... Ok, heres the thing,......your luxe series have completely swept me off my feet and i realised i was addicted to each and every one of it. I know that a lot of hard work was put and i am sure that other fans say that too, but the only question i suppose i could ask is why don't you write another series about American History involving the same characters.i.e. what i mean is something like Diana's or Liz's children who are probably being brought up in the 1920s and u prbably know that this was the after ww1 change of ideology and mindset.......since i am studying about the 1920s i thought it would be a useful idea....i hop u dun think its stupid, its a suggestion anyways......thanks ;) hope ul consider and yes, i wish diana and Henry had gotten together but i guess she just rebelled in the 1900s kinda way ;)

Posted by srushtilovesbooks on May 05, 2010 at 11:13 AM EDT #

Tawny, to answer your Q, i think it's prounouced like Leen-a. Well, i think it's prettier than Line-a. Lina, hmm. idk.

This series was absolutley FABULOUS!! I had to force myself to put them all down so i didnt stay up for a week straight! I actually liked the endingof splendor. I liked that Elizabeth finally got her a good man and a back bone! Di got to go see the world , Henrey got a taste of his own medicine being stuck with Penelope. Carolina decided to make herself the start of a new era! I would LOVE to see one ore two more books in this series. I'd love to see how Di fares in Paris, how Liz Teddy and baby Keller are, How the Schoomakers areand how Claire andCarolina turn society on its ear!! AMAZING series!! Look forward to more Luxe books and more books from you in general!!!

I love this series. Each book just got better and better. The whole time during books 3 and 4 I just wanted teddy and liz to hurry up and get together and the same with Di and Henry. I liked the ending, and can't wait to read more! I would love for someone to make it into a movie.

i have just finished the book and was really pleased when i finished the second to last chapter. i really wish i had finished there because i don't understand why diana said no to henry. If she loved actually loved him, one wouldn't say no!! after putting the ring on! thats just so mean to Henry but i really enjoyed it up to there. Is there going to be a 5th book??!!

Dear Anna Godbersen, What you write is fantastic! I have read the series in four days. Can you believe it? It was so good that I couldn't stop and I would go to sleep very late. My favorite character is Diana because she is exactly like me. Funny, unpredictable, adventurous and lovable. I WISH you make a movie out of this. I would watch it a billion times!

I love these books! I finished Rumors and had to get the next 2 books! I think it would be amazing if you wrote another book after Splendor too!

i love the book splendor even though the endding i didnt like but i see ur point how you wanted dianas happy ending i think we excpected more of her to stay with henry and compete with penelope like in envy . But if you wanted a happy ending for diana show us this and make a sereies of her and how she runs her life after she left .and find love and or comes back after her travels. ii truly loved diana and elizabeth in the last book dont want this one to be the last i still want to hear more from diana henrey and elizabeth even teddy and some of penelope because it seems penelope finaly got her wish and didnt like it after all.

Hi ! I'm french and also read you novel, the whole Luxe serie. I must say that i was disappointed to see Diana leaving Henry behind for Paris and new adventures, they were really in love, weren't they ?! But anyway, I'm not here to say what pleased me and what revulsed me but I wanted to know if you were about to write the suite, I mean another book in the Luxe serie ? I saw that some of the people who commented were saying that you would but I wasn't sure so if you'd make an announcement or something official :D just so that I do not get hopeless dream about a likely happy ending with Diana-Henry !

Posted by Sarah on May 24, 2010 at 07:28 AM EDT #

Anna i apsolutely love! your books the ending was a little upseting for henry but i'm starting to like it. with Elizabeth i am extatic that she is now safe with Teddy i feel that if she could not be with Will it is Teddy she should be with =). I wish the books to go on though because i am dieing to hear more about Carolina and Clair, I feel sorry that Linas wedding was ruind but i hope she can fix things with him! I've seen movie clips saying that there is a movie coming out on youtube but i refuse to get my hopes up untill i hear from the Producers or even YOU! These books are a compleshion to my life ^o^ they make me feel prity while i read them and i now wish i lived back in the 1898 so i could experience what your characters do. Thankyou so much for your books they are amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Amanda Duff on May 24, 2010 at 11:14 AM EDT #

ms. anna, i do have a question for you. i am sure some people who commented already have either mentioned it should be made into a movie or the thought of these books as movies is perposterous, but i was truely curious if there is an option of turning these books into a movie series. if so, that would be wonderful! i think these books will do extremely well (given a great script writer) on screen. also, i think you should consider michelle trachtenberg as penelope hayes. i have seen photos of her with black hair and blue eyes and perfect white skin, it reminds me exactly of penelope (also her personality too). please let me know if the movie is possible in the near future or there will be no such thing. thank you, and i absolutly love your books! wish there was more stuff in relation to your books.

These books are cool. Thanks for sharing your talent with the world. It is interesting, and personally I didn't think Lina or "Carolina" would make it as far as she has in society, but it is interesting and the part that says "For Lina the waters had unexpectedly turned tranquil, and she found herself floating under a bright, warm sun" made me laugh out loud, she was almost toast. And I also think she saw kindness in the Hollands, no matter how much she resented them, because they could have easily blown her cover, but didn't and Diana even helped her. I hope you will go past the last book and give us more. Keep up the good work.

I know that you write for young adults, but this "senior" discovered you at my library and became enthralled with the Luxe novels. I was particularly impressed with the fact that your characters didn't all get that they wanted, and discovered in the end that what they got was good enough to go forth. All the characters tempted fate but ended up none the worse for wear. I really cared about all of them, good or bad. You ended the series right where you should. As with Gone With the Wind, I loved the story and am totally content with the ending of both Wind and Luxe. Thanks, Anna, for a wonderful read!!

I absolutely ADORE this series. It has now become apparent to me that I was born in the wrong century! Anyway, I loved the ending to Splendor...it was the perfect end to the series without being too predictable! Anna, I'd just like to say that you are an amazing author and I can't wait to read your next series!

Posted by Addie on June 02, 2010 at 08:10 PM EDT #

I overall just LOVED the books!! I felt that Teddy and Elizabeth made a great couple. I was dissapointed how Diana and Henry didn't get together, though. I know I wouldn't be the only one who would love to see a sequel to Splendor, about how Henry and Diana have a happy life as a married couple some years into the future, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. A movie would also be just SPLENDID, too. Overall, I'm desperatly awaiting your next series and hopefully a sequel to your best series YET!!!

I think I must truly be sleep deprived after reading the whole Luxe series this week! I only began reading the first book after my friend recommended it, and I have never looked back. These books are beautifully written, and perfectly capture the glorious decadent era that was New York at the beginning of the 20th Century. Each character is written in perfect detail, and I could see them in mind's eye so clearly it was unbelievable.I thought the ending was satisfying in its own unique way, not everyone was happy, but life moved on, as life does. I don't think it would be right to have another Luxe book though, as much as I loved every single character (except for Snowden, him I didn't like so much) I think the ending in Splendour was just that, and ending. It tied up loose ends but left room for your imagination, and lets you wonder at such a powerful story.

Posted by Reann on June 05, 2010 at 05:05 AM EDT #

It seems like a waste after everything Diana and Henry have gone through to try to be together for them just to let eachother go so easily. I sat there for 5 to 7 saying to myself, ''No, no , no...thats not how it's supposed to be...''. I loved the books and I really hope there will be another one maybe 2 years into the future where Henry goes after her. She said she loved him and i believe her. I also know he loves her. I understand why she needs to leave New York, but Henry is still a big part of her life. I hope to be reading another Luxe book soon, and maybe a movie!

Posted by Rose on June 06, 2010 at 02:41 PM EDT #

If you ever come out with a movie could I play one of the characters? Where could I find casting calls for A Luxe movie if that ever came about?

Posted by Lola on June 07, 2010 at 03:03 PM EDT #

Lola, really? "Can I play one of the characters?" First they would get a proffessional actress to play the parts aka some one trained not just a dreamer. And besides it's casting crews and directors who pick not the author, but the author does get a choice in the matter.

Posted by Lina on June 11, 2010 at 07:17 PM EDT #

I totally agree w/ Rose! I was and I AM still shocked w/ the ending of Splendor (i just finished). After all that! Henry should go after Diana. I definitely would LOVE to read more... But I think making a movie for such a series! would be a little complicated & I'm totally sure it will always & stoy perfect if we keep them in our imagination (for the BEST). BTW Anna you got a fantastic way to write! I really enjoyed every perspective in the series, especially Diana's. <3 Keep On the GOOD work! Hope 2 read more from you! =]

I love, love, love your books! I think it was good for Di to leave Henry, because like others have said, she doesn't need to be tied down, especially at such a young age. I hope that you make a 5th book, because I feel like the book was ended to soon, I want to know what happens with Elizabeth & Teddy, Lina, Di, Henry, and even Penelope. And will there be a movie or a tv series?! If so please contact me!(: But your books are great so please write more!

hi! i love ur books! u should make a movie about this!, i dont think u should do a series cause its gonna b almost like gossip girl but i would like a movie really, and my favorite couple is Diana Holland and Henry Schoonmaker! and why u killed Will Keller, Elizabeth and Will were a cute couple 2! and well, i havent read SPLENDOR but i would, but u have 2 write more about this love story! as u see! everyone love ur books!

Dear Anna, I am thinking of starting a book myself. I want to write one sort of like Luxe. Set in New York in the 19th century. Though I am not from the U.S.A I live in Australia. I was wondering if you could help me with some idea's. Characters, what they would be like and in general what the book will be about. I have written a book before but it was more of a story only 11 pages long and for my Soul Sista. I would really appreciate it if you could help me and write. I loved your books the Luxe series. I wish there were more books in the series. From Sabrina

I really want to thank you as an author for writing such an amazing series. Of all of the characters, I definitely connect with Diana the most. At first when I read the ending I was heartbroken, but then I realized that Diana really did go after what she wanted, and stayed true to herself no matter what. As for Henry, I feel like he stayed with Penelope because not having Diana meant he would never desire to seek love again, which was really profound to me. And it shows that the happy ending for Diana doesn't have to mean being married and rich and all of that (Even though I would have loved it if Henry and Diana found each other again in the future). I believe that even though Diana left and Henry stayed with Penelope, their love for each other will stay the same and even grow over time. Thank you so much for writing this series. It was very inspiring.

i liked the ending though diana and henry were an awesome couple she deserved to see the world. and i have a felling she won't be alone for long. i hope you write another book were henry goes after diana! i loved this series so much!

I loved this series and was so sad to see it come to an end. I agree with alot of people when they ask for a 5th book - surely Henry deserves some chance to be with Diana, it seemed to me that he came such a long way that to end up stuck with nasty old Penny (who totally doesn't deserve him!) was rather unfair. Apart from that I think there could have been alot more made of the Elizabeth / Will story. Like how was it her Father knew about them? And what exactly happened on the Klondike? What about that nasty old Snowden and the bribing police officer? I'd love to hear how that all panned out in the end, even if I haven't forgiven you for killing Will - how could you do that?!! Although there is some consolation in the fact that Elizabeth ended up with Teddy (couldn't you just cuddle him?!)

I refuse to believe that Diana would leave Henry. A woman who leaves all behind to find the man that she loves with all her heart, finds him, waits for him, then could finally have him but choses adventure over love? She could have married him and still traveled the world with him by her side. I never looked at her as someone who cared what others said about her. She didn't seem to mind being his mistress, but she was concerned about what people would say about her beind the 2nd Mrs. Henry Shoonmaker? Henry was just another one of her victims. And how easy did Lina get off? Sure she lost the love of her life, but look at how many other lives were affected because of her bitterness and desire to get to the top. I REALLY wanted to see her fall in a pit! I have to say that the ending has made me depressed. Was not what I was hoping or expecting.

Hi Anna! i luv all the Luxe books, even Slpendor! But i was hoping for a more romantic ending and i'd be glad for another book where everything ends perfect, i love happy endings! i think, if u do write another book, Henry should realize he can't live without Diana and goes after her on a small sailboat. I luv all the characters with an exception of Penelope, but without her where would the books be. i think u should make 5 different movies. 1 for each book but the 5th would be of henry and diana's reunion. you should use the grls from the covers or i'd be happy to play diana, elizabeth, or carolina. u're a great author! luv the books!

Is there ever going to be a movie(s) about this series?

Posted by Natasha on July 19, 2010 at 07:38 PM EDT #

i felt as if i was inlove with the luxe series and spent about 10 days reading it all and i finished Splendor last night at 11:00 a.m but after the depressing ending, i thought diana was going to jump off the boat and swim to Henry! but when i finished i thought," NO!NO!THIS CAN'T BE RIGHT! IT'S NOT GOING TO END THIS WAY! THERE'S GOTTA BE ANOTHER BOOK!" but then it was all over and i found myself crying for 10 minutes. Diana and Henry were my all time favorite characters and i feel bad for them and i wish there ending was happier. This series was better then the twilight series... well at least the 1st 3 books. your a great author Anna!:)

Posted by melanie on July 19, 2010 at 11:57 PM EDT #

This book, no, this whole series is so completely well written it brings me to tears. The ending depressed me at first; it drove me CRAZY to find out that Diana and Henry did not wind up together. But then I realized that not all stories have happy endings. It's true that the story ends up with Diana reaching her dream of escaping old New York and exploring the world, but I think we could have been a little more reassured if we know that Diana does end up finding a person that she spends the rest of her life with besides Henry. I was really happy for Elizabeth and Lina, but what Henry has to live through is DEVASTATING! GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH it's ok, I'll get over it soon enough ;D ;D

Posted by Diana on July 20, 2010 at 10:30 PM EDT #

I absolutely adore these books. Unlike some of the other series that popular right now, I can read these books repeatedly and not tire of them. The characters are so perfectly developed into people we can all realate too. Everyone has that one "Penelope" in their life; the one you love to hate. The books pull you into a whole different life so vivid it feels like you are there. I find myself checking this site constantly, searching for news of new books or possible movies. Thank you so much for such an amazing series.

I hope you will write another book about diana and where she goes. It would be amazing if she went half way around the world and ran into henry. By the way you are an amazing writer! I love the luxe series and am always looking in the book stores in case you released a new luxe book! thank you for writing these books for without them i wouldn't have a favorite series! (: xoxo

I loved your books so much. They were addicting, exciting, and I couldn't wait to read the next one. Went I got to Splendor, I was sad that it was the last book but i was still excited to read it. However, when I got to the end, I couldn't stop crying. It was the most disappointing ending. I understand that Diana wanted to travel the world but wouldn't she have so much more fun if she was traveling the world with the love of her life by her side? I don't understand how one week she wants to live with Henry and is practically telling every one that she is his mistress and then the next week telling him that she is going alone. On top of that, Penelope and Henry might stay together after just that very morning they were signing divorce papers. I hope you plan on writing another book because that was very disappointing to me and many other readers.

Posted by steve on July 26, 2010 at 11:24 PM EDT #

I loved Splendor and am happy how things turned out for almost everyone- except Henry. I hate that he is stuck in a loveless relationship with Penelope. I wish he had never married her and that Diana and him could have had a chance. I feel like he is just going to have a jaded life and never find love again/become someone he despises and a complete womanizer. It also kills me that Penelope ultimately gets the life (or the appearance of the life) that she hurt people to get without suffering overly much. She is the villain in this series and she still (probably) gets to be Mrs. Henry Schoonmaker. Grr! I know the series is over and done with, but I wish there would be a novella set in the future that allows Diana and Henry to be together!

Hi Anna, I love your Luxe series, you have completely captivated my attention. I love how all of the books in this series are unpredictable and fascinating; you are gifted as a writter. However, I am a firm beleiver that Henry and Diana be married and live happily ever after wherever they want to be. Needless to say I cried for an indefinate period of time upon completing Splendor... Please please please make another addition to your Luxe series!!! Kick "darling Penny" out on the curb so Di and Henry's love can flourish!!!!!
