The Luxe - The Official Site :: letters-from-anna

Dear Reader,

The characters in the Luxe series spend a lot of time at elaborate balls that require truly ostentatious and time-consuming wardrobes. Penelope
probably spends all day getting ready for a big night.

There aren't many events in my own life that justify really dressing up, but I still love doing it. Sometimes I think that getting ready to go out is more fun than any party could be.

When I was in college, my roommates and I would spend hours trying clothes on and discarding rejected outfits on the floor. Sometimes we felt disappointed by wherever we ended up going, but we all remember the pre-game gussying-up sessions as the best part.

When was the last time you had a chance to get truly glamorous?
I'd love to know!

Comments:

The best pre-parties are the ones when my friends and I are all trying to decide what to wear--trading accessories and all that. Friends always give the best fashion advice! I have to get glam for a wedding next weekend. No idea what I'm wearing yet. : ( Anyone on the blog have any fave dress suggestions?

OMG! That is the phrase that basically sums up Rumors! I loved this book and I cried when I found out what the wedding in the beginning was all about. You can't let that wedding happen! Please tell me that there will be some hope for me and that Mr. Schoonmaker is with the person he truly loves. The book was great anyways and I will be eagerly waiting for Envy. Thanks

I would I have to say, I couldn't agree more with this letter. Just having all my friends gathered around, prepping each other with make up and hair curlers and trading outfits, is truly so much fun. And guys who complain about how long girls take, have never (and probably will never) experiance something quite like it. The last time I really experianced this pre-party excitement was last weekend for Prom 2008. It really was so much fun being with all my friends and taking pictures in such glamorous dresses and stylish make up and hair. It was a night filled with pictures of girls with silken flowing dresses and long gorgeous sashes, and guys with clean cut tuxedos, looking cute in an adorable sophisticated way. Its an event even the boys have to dress up for. So, I guess, in that sense....its a dance everyone has to prep for. And just have fun. =)

I don't ever go to parties or anything like that, but I love having me and my 3 best friends prepping each other before our dance recitals. I can't wait till I'm old enough for a prom =) Buying the dress, shoes, accessories... And on another note-I can't wait to read Rumors; my fiend says it's great. She recommended The Luxe on Sunday, I got it yesterday, and bought Rumors today. It's amazing =)

I totally agree with your letter, the best part of this years prom was getting ready with my friends, even better then that was back in march when we were shopping for the dresses :)

Yeah the last time I had to get really dressed up was for my Winter Formal, in January. I go to an all-girls school so I had to ask the guy--so nervewracking. Anyway, I love how you go into so much detail about what the characters are wearing. Its like my favorite part of the book--besides the romanticism. Haha is that even a word? I just bought Rumors yesterday but I love how you did the first chapter and then you don't tell the reader who is the bride... haven't finished it yet but I'm sure I'll LOVE it, just like Luxe. I CANNOT wait for the next book to come out. I wonder what it is going to be called...?

Someone earlier said the next book would be called Envy or something... I can't wait!

I just finished reading Rumors. I was stunned! Its not very common, but I think that the sequel lives up to the original! I have to say I am mildly disappointed in Henry for agreeing to marry Penelope like that. Even if Penelope was going to reveal Henry's secret to the press. But I still have faith in Diana to go out there and defeat Penelope! Anyway, the last time I got truly glamorous for a party, was my sweet sixteen party last night. I wore the most amazing silk violet Vera Wang sleeveless gown! I was almost being complimented on my gown the whole night! Oh, and I can't forget having my best friend Lily giving my hair an amazing French twist! It was a night I shall never forget.

I go to parties down here in the South, and we sure do know how to party, but it is not as glamorous as the ones in New York and such. I agree that the best part of any party is the dressing up beforehand with our best friends. I have read the Luxe and Rumors, and i cannot wait until January when Envy is in stores. I love reading them all and so do a lot of my friends! From me in South Carolina, good luck in Brooklyn!!

Miss Anna, your first book (so far, I'm getting ready to read the next one) is so amazing! I know I am just gushing without really giving a good comment, but I will try: you are a writing genius, you truly are. You have brought insights to life that many people realize, but cannot say in actual words, if that makes sense. And that makes up a true writer, I believe. Personally, some of your most interesting strengths are your wonderful descriptions of appearance (and appearance is so crucial with this "aristocratic" book), your excellent character role playing (each person seems like a distinct, separate character), and how historically accurate the book seems to be...I simply am in love with this book, and I care about what happens with each character. Thank you for your talent, and thank you because you spend time writing these books. Thank you so very much. --An Anna Godbersen fan
