Hello lovelies!

I woke up feeling rather overwhelmed by the task of finishing Splendor, but I’m feeling very positive about it and lucky now. And I will tell you why. My apartment (and Luxe writing headquarters) is mere blocks from a little place called the Greenpoint Coffee House, which smells all rich and warm and cozy and where, incidentally, Jake, my best friend from high school, works. Now, I cannot ordinarily do the café writing thing, because I am always nervous that the fellow next to me with the ibook that is newer than mine is getting more done than me, and also it gets in the way of my humming to myself and other little odd behaviors that I like to indulge in when I’m alone. But Jake makes a mean Americano—and I know, because sometime in the late nineties we worked together in an ice cream parlor/espresso shop in Oakland, CA. And during the final weeks of writing (or something like that—ladies, I’m trying!), when the hours are long, it is nice to be close to a loved one, even in the isolation that is creative drudgery.

All of which got me to thinking about first jobs, and how awesome the friendships you form there are. Those are not very Luxe stories—nobody except my little Lina really knows what working is about—but I bet some of you have a few good anecdotes along those lines. So let’s hear 'em!

Comments:

Hey! I have not had my first job yet! BUT I am planning on getting my very first job this summer! I have had a job working at a horse farm in the summer but we sadly do not get paid! I can't wait to see what is going to happen next! I swear I was born in the wrond time period!!!! I should've been born when Diana was born!

I just want to say my mom bought Luxe for me two Christmases ago and I was kind of bummed about getting a book but I read it and it just inspired me so much. I absolutely love your writing!! She got me Rumors for this Christmas and I've been so busy I haven't been able to read it, but I read it all today I couldn't put it down to even eat! Your descriptions are so vivid I can picture what everyone from Tristan to Penelope to Diana to Elizabeth looks like and is wearing. These books should be movies!! and on jobs I'm a lifeguard for over a year now, but after hurricane Gustav I was jobless for a few months and tried my luck as a hostess..lasted a week. I couldn't stand the people or the environment!

Anna! My first job was coaching a tennis camp for little kids! I did it for a couple of weeks during the summer, had to learn what to do with a paycheck, got the overall experience of working with others, and essentially becoming a parent for about 5 hours of the day....whew! Its a good thing I have years to go before that one... Good luck with Splendor!! Emily

I've had no luck with getting a job yet, but I plan to soon. The purpose of this comment is that I want to tell you how much I love your books, though. Your ability to keep up with five different pint of views without getting mixed up is completely awesome. I can't wait to read Splendors!

Anna! My first job was/is working at Mickey D's! Haha. I've been working there since August of last year, and guess what!? I hate it! But I needed money for college and for moving out, so I guess, you gotta do what you gotta do! Just two more months until I'm leaving! My major is gonna be English, Literature and Writing! Yay!!!

Hello I'm Elise and I'm French . I have reading the Luxe and Rumors. I thought that " the luxe " was a trilogy? and not a saga.... the English and American readers are lucky. because they do not wait too much between every books for a long time. They belong to the third there already and if there is a fourth.... We in France, they even don't know when is going to go out the third (surely in for a long time seen that "Rumors" went out on February 25th of this year). It molests me in most in the point as much as now that I know that there is a fourth volume and therefore four times more questions in my head. xxx Elise- nombers2@hotmail.fr

So, my first job was at, shock of all shocks, McDonalds. Only my particular resturant was on a military base. Yeah, though it didn't last long, it was so much fun. I met so many new and different people all the time. Not to mention that I got to see and meet a lot of really good looking boys in uniform. LOL!!! Anna, I am so looking forward to reading Splendor, can't wait to see what happens to all the characters. Again, your writting is awsome. Thanks!!!!

Posted by Lynn on March 15, 2009 at 12:22 PM EDT #

uh, well the first of first jobs would have to be babysitting, I mean you do get oaid and all. Ah the fun of watching little kids lie to you the whole day.

My first job was at this neat little gourmet dog treat shop. These owners loved their dogs enough to pay $15/lb for their treats! it was an interesting place to work-- you'd have all sorts of people coming in at all hours (and then of course there were the people who'd eat the treats themselves) but its always interesting to meet people who are passionate-- even if its about their pets. I can't wait to read the final part of this tale. I hope that the ending is fitting. (please let Diana and Henry be together finally!)

Hey Anna. I have got to say that I love your books. I actually just discovered them about a week ago n I have finished all three in about a week that is insane for me since i'm usually not a fast reader nor do I read much. I just wanted to say that these books are amazing and you have created some interesting characters. Some of them i love others are well, lets just say that aren't the nicest. As for first jobs, hmm well I guess I did a paper route in my neighbourhood and was a babysitter. but my first real in the world job was filing clerk at an optometrist office n i'm still there. I love the people i work with and even though most of them are older than me I can still relate to them and have formed serveral friendships. i look forward to the fourth book!

My first job was at Taco John's. I didn't love it, but the people there made it so much better. Also, a little word of advice: Don't mess with people who handle your food! lol.

my first job was at a little old grocery store i really liked working there it was really old fasioned and cute and the people who owned it were old but very sweat and kind

Currently, my first and only job is babysitting. It doesn't sound very Luxe, but I always walk away with fun stories to tell. What I love most is hearing all of the honest, funny, and clever things younger children say in their sweet little baby voices. Before writing this comment, I tried to post a funny story about my adventures in babysitting, but apparently "Comment contained over 1000 characters" So I am going to conclude this by thanking everyone who read this, and thanks to Anna for using up a few minuets of her precious time to keep us updated! ~Riley~

first job babysitting.... Idk about kids LOL! Envy was great I hope Di and Henry end up together and don't have a tragic ending. When does Splendor come out?

Posted by bella on March 16, 2009 at 06:24 PM EDT #

Hello, MS. GODBERSEN of the enthralling, captivating, deliciously engrossing LUXE series! Guess what, i'm from the Philippines. I've read all three LUXE books--Envy came out just last month in bookstores. See? The LUXE fever has reached the other side of the globe! Congratulations. And yeah, you mentioned in your series a war going on in the Philippines during that time. It's historically accurate and correct. There was a Spanish-American war during those years here, and Admiral Dewey is a popular historical figure in our country as well. Wait.my comment's gettin longer. I want to suggest something for your SPLENDOR cover: how bout having the whole LUXE ensemble pose for a sort of 'family portrait'? It'll be great to see Henry, Di, Penelope, Liz, Teddy, etc together in one dramatic cover. Or...just Liz, Di, Penny and Liney. It'll be breathtaking. Anyway, good luck on SPLENDOR! lookin forward to it.

hey, just wanted to say I love the books so much. I just finished Envy like 10 minutes ago and am pretty much dying inside for splendor to come out!:) I was really sad how diana and henry kept doing things and they got the wrong impression of it. I cried lots at the letter at the end and I couldn't believe how she cut her gorgeous hair! But yeah I love the books, and can't wait for Splendor! You're a great writer too! <3

So when is Splendour coming out? :D

Posted by m on March 17, 2009 at 04:23 PM EDT #

I loved your books. They were full of drama, but still keeping the historical factor. You are one of the most talevted writes of books i have ever read. ( wich are a lot of books.) I can't wait until Spleandor comes out. I hope you will write even more books.

SPLENDOR INFORMATION For those who keep pestering about when Splendor is coming out, I will inform you that the cover (not the book, only the cover) is set to be released in October. That means that book probably will not come into book stores until months later. Of course only the magnificent Anna can tell us a concrete date for the book premiere. It is not easy writing a book. Trust me, I've tried! On a different note, thanks to those from places other than America commenting here! It is fascinating to hear what you have to say! Once again, I extend my thanks to Anna for parting from her writing to post a blog. ~Riley~

I have an idea! I think that the website should open a Luxe books discussion room, where people who love the series (as I do!) can comment like this regularly to talk about all of the details of the stories that I just can't seem to stop thinking about! Anna, if you are reading this, is there possibly a way we can make this happen? If you don't have time, then that is perfectly understandable! For those reading this comment, do you think there should be a discussion room? Tell me what you think! ~Riley~

Posted by Riley on March 20, 2009 at 06:41 PM EDT #

I love the series!! I just finished Envy and I can not wait for Splendor to come out. I have fallen in love with all of the characters, especially Diana. I hope my first job will be at the library as a page. I will be responsible for stocking shelves and helping patrons. I love your books I can't wait for more Thank You

Posted by Nichole on March 21, 2009 at 11:05 AM EDT #

Hey Anna. I absolutely LOOOOVE your books!! I can't put them down when I'm reading them! I agree with Marie that these books should be movies. And....if they do become movies....I hope I can find out when an audition is so I can audition for a part! Because I love acting. I do the school plays and musicals, and my mom's sending me to theater camp this summer. I've never had a job. I was going to get one this summer, either babysitting, or at the ice cream place right down the street, but now I'll be busy all summer with camp. And, also, I know how difficult it is to even WRITE a book. I'm in the middle of writing one right now. It can be utterly FRUSTRATING. I'm not even half way done with mine. Only 120 pages! Good luck finishing Splendor!!!!

Posted by Ellen on March 22, 2009 at 04:07 PM EDT #

wow i love your books i can't wait to see what happends to Penny, i sure she find some way to get back up and get what she wants. However at that start of Envy you said the bird saw a newly marrried woman with man who looked nothing like her husband undoing her corrset my question is who is that person i don't think it is one of the main charactors. -thank you in advance

Posted by rose on March 22, 2009 at 04:24 PM EDT #

the bird saw a newly marrried woman with man who looked nothing like her husband undoing her corrset my question is who is that person. I think it is Elizabeth's new husband, her fathers partner. Am I right? When will Splendor be in the book stores? I love these books. You have to get Diana and Henry married along with her sister and Mr. Cutting!! That would be great!

Posted by Rose M. on March 22, 2009 at 06:39 PM EDT #

I think a discussion form would be awesome! I love talking to my best friend about the book but i would love hearing other peoples thoughts and ideas! AH! So Anna if you could, it would be awesome if you added it! So the probable release date will be around November October? OH MY GOODNESS. The wait will kill me! But 2009 is passing by fast and i hope it will continue to do so! Enjoy writing your book and your readers support you all the way!

Posted by Kaitlyn on March 23, 2009 at 10:49 AM EDT #

I though that the newly married woman who looked nothing like her husband undoing her corset while "giggling" was Isabelle Schoonmaker. But I could be wrong! Would you mind setting as us all straight about that Anna? Also, lets try and get that discussion room started! Thanks! ~Riley~

Posted by Riley on March 23, 2009 at 05:37 PM EDT #

OMG!! When I read the note from Henry To Diana at the end of ENVY I started crying sooooo badly!!! I couldn't STOP!!! My siblings just stared at me and said, "What in the world is wrong with you?". And I said, "This book is just SO good, and I just read a really, really, really sad part!" LOL. You really know how to get a reader connected with what's happening in the book. THEN, I started thinking about the possible things that could happen in SPLENDOR, and started crying more. 1. Because some of the possibilities were really, super sad. 2. Because I DIDN'T KNOW!!! lol. I can't wait to read SPLENDOR. Only if 2009 would go faster!! :)

Posted by Ellen on March 23, 2009 at 06:13 PM EDT #

I think Isabelle Shoonmaker is the one having the affair and "giggling".

My first job was at a lawyers office. I'm still working there and do A LOT of paper work, but hey, its a job and the money's good. My second job is my favorite though. I also work in a warehouse packing boxes and because it's so cold in the winter, we get to make hot chocolate to get us through the long nights! :-) Enjoy the coffee! I can't wait for the next Luxe adventure!

Posted by Katie on March 23, 2009 at 09:25 PM EDT #

I bought The Luxe a week ago after it was recommended to me by a friend, and already I've finished Envy. I can't wait to read Splendor! And I absolutely love your writing style, by the way. I found it impossible to read just one chapter at a time.

Posted by Dana on March 23, 2009 at 10:17 PM EDT #

Oh my goodness! I must say that I absolutely adore your books! I wish I could have been born in that time. I love how it's a little twist off of Gossip Girl. I find it much more intriguing. Though I must ask. Is there a movie in progress? Or planning? I only say this because when I read your books, I can imagine and see every little part. Ooh! Now I wish I could be in the possible movie. I act pretty good. Not. Haha. But seriously, a movie would make me very very happy. Again, I love your books, and they inspire me. I'm very excited for Splendor. Oh and my first job was babysitting a cat. Hah.

I just recently went to Walmart and decided I needed something to read over spring break and saw the cover of your book. It caught my attention so I read the description which got me interested in the book so I bought it and I have just finished it! Luxe was a beyond words but to put it simpily I had a hard time doing anything but reading. This novel was thrilling and full of romance and secrets which was delightful. I beyond enjoyed reading this book. I think it reminded me of Jane Austen movies but a little more recent and I am with out a doubt in love with Becoming Jane and Pride and Prejudice they were extraordinary. Your writting is very inspiring and influential. I am going out and buying Rumors tomorrow!

Sadly I have not had a summer job yet, which means no extra money for me. I just wanted to say that I first started reading the luxe series around a few weeks ago, and I could not put The luxe down! I let my friend borrow it, and she loves it too! I just finished rumors and just started reading envy and am near the end of it , because I couldn't put it down, my friend is currently reading rumors. I can't wait till splendor comes out and I love your writing.

I just finished the LUXE , and you know what ? I completely love it! i tried to read GOSSIP GIRL but i didn't like it very much. Anyway, i think THE LUXE is the best book i've read this year. I'd like to continue with RUMORS but i don't find it at my school library. i'll try to get it anyway... i can't wait to continue to read all the book. Anyway, I wanted to ask you Ms Anna if there will be a movie of the luxe book ? If yes , i'll be the first to see it ... Sincerly, *** Kestia ***
