Love or hate?

Reed never actually said the line above. She just thought it. It was moments after she'd read the letter that Thomas supposedly left in her room, hoping she'd discover it after he was long gone. She didn't know how to feel about the whole thing. How could she forgive him for leaving? Then again, how could she not?


Have you ever been caught between love and hate about something or someone? If you were Reed, how would you have felt?

I dunno really. I'm one of those people who keeps things bottled up so if I cared about the person I wouldn't tell them they had hurt me, at first, untill i eventually exploded. Reed is a little like that in the sense that she doesn't really talke to the person bout how they hurt her she just forgives them . Like her and Noelle never really talked about the things they went through. Btw than you for blogging so often Kate!! Cant wait for the first chapter of scandal.

i feel it with this guy because we get in fights a lot even though we're friends but ive liked him for like three years, since seventh grade, and even when we fight and i feel like hating him i still am in love with him.

I agree with that soo much, and I myself am in the midst's of a love and hate relationship. One second he says he doesnt mant to talk to me and the next hes all sweet.but their are alot of complications that would take too long to write. What it really comes down to though is, i'd love to hate him and i ahte to love him but i do.

Love and hate are definitly related! You may love something one day and then hate it the next, and then go back to loving it again! I think everyone has something or someone like that in their life. I definitly do. If I were Reed I would feel like she felt, she didnt know whether to forgive Thomas or not for what he'd done. Although it wasnt his fault, she didnt know that at the time. I would have felt betrayed and naive for taking Thomas back the day before he disappeared, after what he had done at the bonfire. But if Thomas did come back after disappearing, I probably would have taken him back if he had a good explanation. I guarantee Reed probably would have too.

so this is kind of random, but i was rereading the private series and was wondering what color eyes are Ivy Slade's? in the book ambition it describes her eyes as blue. in other books it mentions them as dark and coal-like; almost black...so which is it?

Yea .. its really scary how closely related love and hate really are. Especially considering they are exact opposites. Two sides to the same penny...? Not sure if that makes sense :P buttt whatever! You could love someone so much even if they don't make you happy. Which you would hate about them. But you'd still love them. Annddd if you really think about it, that makes perfect sense ;).

It is amazing how related the two opposites are. sometimes you hate people for the things they do to you, yet you love them so much, sometimes so much it hurts, and then when they lash out and make you feel like craap, you hate them, but can't say goodbye because you love them soo much. This love/hate thing can cause a lot of problems and so much pain, sometimes it is hard to decide whether or not its all worth it, in the end.

@ Sammantha- I've noticed the same thing but with Josh. Its like from book 2 to book 5 that his eye color is alterning. In 2 its green, then blue, then green(: haha I'm not sure how to imagine him now. Oh and I definately understand the Love/Hate thing. I really really hate this guy, but at the same time I cannot help but love him...

I Love my boyfriend.. but there are times when i hate the things he does or says... but in the end the love always overpowers the hate and i think its because thats what love is meant to do.. overpower hate.

Oh boy, im in the middle of a love hate thing with this guy right now. He's the first guy I've ever TRUELY loved. Its like one minute I hate him(mainly for not loving me back) and the next minute he'll say something that makes me love him even more. And then I hate him for making me love him! It's quite sad actually. Oh and I love this one quote, it doesnt really have anything to do with the 'relationship love hate' but its kinda cute. "They say HATE is a strong word, but they throw around LOVE like its nothing."

Yeah, that's the problem. One minute I'm in "love" with josh (yes, his name's josh =p) but the next I see him flirting around with other girls, act stupid or something and i just tell myself that it isn't worth liking him and I really have to concentrate on studies, but the next moment he'll somehow make me like him again. It's a torture :(

Troubled, most definitely. Because you love someone and yet you have so many reasons to hate them and they just keep giving you more, and you just can't seem to stop loving them. It sucks, because you know that you obviously care for them more than they care for you, but you just can't help the way you feel, despite all the horrible things they'd done. And if I was Reed, the only reason I wouldn't have forgiven Thomas was that he pushed me, and not because he pushed me, but because that action got him you-know-what.

Yeah, my ex and I were SO in love. There were times when I was like "Wow, I love my life," because he just made it so awesome, and then those times where I couldn't stand him. I felt like I hated him (even though I don't.) We're broken up now, but we're still pretty good friends. I love him. As a friend.

I dunno. I keep my emotions in check and really don't let them show a lot. I'd be said that Thomas was gone, but angry that he left everyone in so much worry. Then again it is Thomas and he is just so...well, Thomas. You HATE to LOVE him.

I can never really say I've truly been in love. I've never had a boyfriend, although I did have crushes every now and then. Hate and love can be so close to each other, sometimes you can't even see it. I've seen many of my friends who've had boyfriends that were no good. It's always "I love him" one minute and "I hate him" the next. If you are constantly struggling between "loving" and "hating" someone, why be in that relationship at all? I think being in love with someone is accepting him for who he his, faults or not, and vice versa. But if you always have doubts about him, maybe it just won't work out. Almost like Reed and Thomas, for example. Thomas made Reed feel special and loved, but made her constantly worry a minute later. Doesn't that add unneeded stress to you?

u know what really bugs me, when couples say i love you to eachother after like 1 week of dating! all my friends do it in school. theyll date i guy and every second theyll be all "i lovveee u" , then theyll break up and my friend will get another boyfriend, and once again start saying i love after a couple days! isnt love a sacred thing! ive never felt anything close to love with the guys ive dated, and i think it would take me at least 6 monthes to be sure i really loved a guy. Like Reed and Josh, it took them more than a year to say i love u and they actually meant it! I feel like people throw around the word without really thinking about what theyre saying! Love is like colorless word these days, does anyone feel the same way????

Love and Hate are very close together! If you love or hate someone or thing, it is always on your mind. You constantly think about it, and everything you see and hear somehow connects to it. Soon, you can't tell whether or not you hate the thing, and soon find yourself falling in love. You see the good in it, and somehow turn the things you hated turn into the littlest thing or things you love. Love and hate are so different, yet so much alike.

MEGAN thanks sooo much for sending the story, im not finished reading it yet but so far it sounds really interesting and I cant wait to see what happens in the later chapters. Also Alyssa, yeah im still writing my 'Useless' original story, but I'm just having troubles starting chapter three. And I just wanted to say that I've started writing a new original story. I just finished chapter 1 last night, so let me know if you want me to send it up to anyone. Its definetly not as discriptive as my other original but it connects much more to the teenage mind, and this one is in a girls point of view.

I think they do that one purpose, just to toture our poor souls :(

That sucks. Gotta love procrastination. Kind of like how I have an English paper due tomorrow, which will be the first grade for the 3rd quarter. Shiiiiit. Haha. Good luck on your exams! ;) I HATE it when teachers put exams on the same day. Then at the beginning of the year, they're telling my grade "We try our best not to put multiple academic testing on the same day." Yeah. Bullsh*t? I think so.

Hey Ya'll! Everyone says "Hate is a strong word" and "don't say it unless you REALLY mean it" well that is the same thing about love. With reed she sometimes gave her love to people quickly and then found that they shouldn't be trusted. She always sees that the people she loves the most are only close for a short while. Then she finds new people to love. People shuffle in and out and we learn to love them, it hurts really bad when we loose them but reed never really looks at the fun times of what she had with people she just dreads their absence and wants them to quickly return. iddiot. jkjkjkjkj hahahaha! sorry most of that was REALLY deep. haha.. -Alice :o

@brina @julie please send you stories to me. You've got my e-mail already. :) @allyssa I'll be having my first-term exam in less than a month. It'll be on for a week and it's only a short test! The full exam will be mid-year and trial exams for my real major exam in nov and it always goes on for three weeks with 2-3 papers everyday! Isn't it insane? But that's the education system here...

That's how the education system works here.. Btw, mid-year and year-end exams last for three weeks; the others are just short tests. The trial exams consist of all the papers...

Could not have been better. It was so relaxing! and really fun because my parents were in italy while me, my brother, and my sister were in croatia. I wish it lasted longer, but If i miss even just a few days of school, i'm like pretty much screwed. Usually we're in europe for like 2 months in the summer :( i wish we were there that long this time.

wow brina that sounds like soo much fun! i havn't traveled that much. sue that sounds crazy, school on saturday plus yr exams sounds soo much complecated then ours. i live in canada and it is 7:20 am right now.... almost school :(

7:20?? wow im in new york and its 3:30 pm here, my school just ended lol, and my mid-year exams were last week, the only good thing about exam week is i had tuesday and wednseday off cuz none of my exams were those days : ) I love that everyones from different parts of the world but were connecting by an amazing book, thats the power of liturature! haha

I have been caught up in a whole love and hate situation, but not to the serious extent of Reed. As for Reeds feeling, confusion definetly comes to mind.

Love and hate can be very similar. For example, I love my sister but at times I do not like her at all.

I SO know have someone like that. My friends and I fight really often to the point I'm already planning things to cause absolute hell for her. Yet, when we have fun moments, I end up being reluctant. Yet again, I'm learning how to shun that feeling.
